Have you ever wondered why you are on this earth? We all have asked ourselves, What is life all about? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? Is there any meaning to it all? The answer to these questions is yes! There is meaning and purpose in life: to have a personal relationship with the one true God and live in fellowship with Him forever.

The biblical understanding of knowing God is not just to have a mental knowledge about God, but to have a personal relationship with God. It means intimacy.

But how can we know God and have fellowship with Him? If Hes really there, He must be so far removed from us that any understanding we have of Him could only be the product of our own imaginations. And we would never know if these were right. Therefore, if we are to know God, He must take the initiative to reveal Himself to us.

The good news is that God has taken the initiative. He has revealed Himself to us in four ways. The first way is through creation. All of creation declares to us the existence of God. Creation is His handiwork and bears witness to the reality that there is a God who created the universe and made us in His image so that we can know Him and be known by Him. In other words, we can have a relationship with Him.

Second, He has built within each of us a God consciousness. Whether we admit it or not, we all have a sense, or knowledge, that there is a God who created us to know Him and fellowship with Him. We are forever looking into the things and pleasures of this world to fill the God-void inside us until we find this personal relationship with Him.

But these general revelations of God only tell us something about Him. They do not really help us to know Him. So, God decided to reveal Himself to us in a third way. He wrote His autobiography. Its calledthe Bible. Through the pages of the Bible, we can come to know God and find the answers to the mysteries and deep questions about life. As we will see in this book, Gods Word to us is so important that no matter how many evil people have tried to destroy it, He promised to preserve it for us down through the ages

Yet, it is easy for people to miss the spirit and true intent of Gods Word. Therefore, God chose a fourth and final way to reveal Himself to us. This is through the person of Jesus of Nazareth, the Jewish Messiah and Savior of the world. Jesus was the complete and perfect revelation of the unseen God. God wrapped His Word in human flesh and became one of us.

Because Gods intention was to join the human race, Jesus was more than just a man or a great teacher, healer, or prophet. While it is hard for some to accept, the redemption of mankind required that Jesus be both divine and human. He was God in human flesh, who came to the earth to redeem us from sin and reconcile us to His Father in Heaven. Therefore, God gave us the Bible that we might know Him and find redemption and salvation through personal faith in Jesus as Messiah, Savior, and Lord.

It is interesting that God did not send us a religion; He sent us a person. God does not care if we are religious or not. What He wants is for us to have a relationship with Him. Many people have a religion about God but do not have a personal relationship with God. God doesnt care so much about outward religious rituals; He cares about our heart.

God not only desires that we know Him, but that we also learn to walk with Him. The Hebrew word for walking with God is halakhah. It means the path to walk. We learn this, also, from the Bible. In its pages, God shows us the path we should walk, reveals when we are off the path, and helps us to get back on the path. He also teaches us how to stay on the path.

Having a personal relationship with God does not only mean to agree to certain religious beliefs and creeds about God. It means to actually walk with Him in a way of life that brings joy to His heart and blessings into your life.

So, yes, we can know God and fellowship with Him. We can learn to walk with Him. This is possible as we study the written revelation of who He is. The Bible is that revelation of the one true God and how we may know Him and walk with Him through a personal relationship with Jesus.

In the Bible, God says that if we will seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him (see Jeremiah 29:13). He is waiting for you. Will you open the Bible and your heart and get to know Him?
