He takes that message and drives it
supernaturally into the human heart. BILLY GRAHAM Do not worry about how or what you should speak.
For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;
for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. MATTHEW 10:1920 NKJV MY FATHER, BILLY GRAHAM, IS KNOWN FOR SPEAKING OUT about the one and only thing that matters in this world: the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He remembers the call of God more than seventy years ago to preach the Word of God to all those who would listen about salvation that comes only through Christ. He took this high calling with seriousness and boldness in obedience to the God of all creation. He once said, I will travel anywhere in the world to preach if there are no strings on what I am to say. Billy Graham has been quoted and misquoted countless times, which led him to clarify words from his own lips: I am constantly concerned about being quoted in the press and perhaps saying the wrong thing or having what I say misinterpreted and bringing reproach to the name of Christ.
People do not come to hear what Billy Graham has to say; they want to hear what God has to say. Jesus tells us not to be misled by the voices of strangers. There are so many strange voices being heard in the religious world of our day. We must compare what they say with the Word of God. This book contains hundreds of quotes from my father, whose voice is not strange or silent. He says, God speaks from heaven through the Bible, His written word.
This is why I use the phrase the Bible says. I would not have the authority to say what I do in sermons unless it was based upon the Word of God. My fathers sermons are anchored to the Scriptures. I have often heard him say, Man will surrender to the impact of the Word of God. When we preach or teach the Scriptures, he wrote, we open the door for the Holy Spirit to do His work. God has not promised to bless oratory or clever preaching.
He has promised to bless His Word. My father prayed that his words would reflect Gods standard of truth as the basis to claim, I have given them Your word (John 17:14 NKJV). The quotes contained in this book are taken predominantly from my fathers writings from 1947 to 2010 (spanning seven decades). I trust that the message will penetrate your heart and encourage you in life. FRANKLIN GRAHAM Let the words of my mouth... be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD. PSALM 19:14 NKJV I AM HUMBL ED AND ENORMOUS LY GRAT E FUL FOR WHAT HAS been compiled in this book; quotes taken from my literary works through the years.
Most of all, I am pleased that these quotes have their foundation in the Word of God. Each topic has been selected based upon Bible verses that address these same issues. It has been exciting to focus this project on what God directed His prophets, apostles, and disciples to write down through the inspiration of His Holy Spirit as the very Word of God. As you peruse these quotes, refer often to the anchor verse of each subject and let Gods Word challenge you, convict you, encourage you, and help you discover His abiding love to all who faithfully follow Him. The Bible speaks of Gods Word in many different ways. When you see words in Scripture such as promises, truths, doctrines, and laws, these are insights into the mind and heart of God.
Because my eyesight dims more each year, I am grateful for the many Scripture passages I was able to commit to memory through my years of study, and I draw strength from them day by day. I can still enjoy listening to the Bible through many forms of technology devices. Regardless of the format, the very words of God are living and powerful (Hebrews 4:12 NKJV), and the teaching of His Word gives light so that even the simple can understand (Psalm 119:130 NKJV). Jesus told His followers, Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life (John 6:63). The Bible says, The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings the good news (Psalm 68:11).
What privilege has been mine to be among a swelling army of those whom God has raised up to preach this Good Newsthe Gospel message of the Lord Jesus Christto wandering souls. My hope is that those who do not know Him as their personal Savior will be moved by the message found in these pages and be drawn by the Holy Spirit to the foot of the cross, where forgiveness is found and salvation through grace is granted. BILLY GRAHAM
