Over a decade ago, I was diagnosed with an incurable, stage IV cancer.
Since youre reading Emilees stellar guide to recovering and restoring your beautiful body (smart cookie!), you know what a total shocker it is to hear that kind of news.
At the time, it felt like a tidal wave of fear swept through my life and I was being pulled under. But really, it was my wake-up call to live a life filled to the brim with intention and purpose. I realized that the only person who could help me was me. So I became the CEO of my life and took control of my own wellness.
I began living mindfully and healthfully. This included adopting a plant-based diet, drinking delicious green drinks, and smoothing and zen-ing out with meditation each morning.
Exercise was also added to my non-negotiable list. Lets just say movement plays a major part in protecting your ass-ets!
Besides the obvious health benefits, exercise also increases your level of endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin, which helps you feel more joyful, relaxed, and clear-minded.
After meeting Emilee during a session of B-School, I ordered her workout DVD and asked to have a peek at her upcoming exercise guide. I absolutely loved it, and you will too!
In Reclaim Your Strength and Hope: Exercises for Cancer Core Recovery, Emilee gives you the keys to gently and safely stretch all major muscle groups and strengthen your core.
She compassionately walks you through each phase of recoveryits like shes right by your side, coaching you along the way. Plus, her personality is upbeat, fun, and inspirationalwhich will help you stay oh-so-motivated. From one cancer patient to another, I can honestly say that Emilee is a treasure.
To have someone who has undergone the same experiences with cancereven though its unique for everyoneis a gift. I felt she connected with me and understood the vulnerabilities of being a cancer survivor.
Not only does this guide include exercises, but it also has gorgeous coloring pages, soulful journal prompts, and inspiring advice for those days when the most you can do is roll over in your bed and pick up a book!
From phase 1 exercises that you can do in your hospital bed, all the way to phase 5 advanced strengthening and balance exercises, Emilee will inspire you to move, even if its only sitting up in a chair for a few seconds or walking across a room.
She organized this guide to be followed from the start of your recovery in your hospital bed to the moment you are standing on your feet at home. You cant go wrong with her method of taking you through each phase, s-l-o-w-l-y. The beautiful thing is that you wont overdo it during recovery.
A slow and steady recovery means lifelong healing and good health.
Do not rush through your exercises, or any aspect of your healing journey, for that matter. We live in a culture thats obsessed with quick fixes. I encourage you to savor every moment of your life and to see how beautiful you are, right now.
Emilee believes that cancer recovery is a process, not a race to the finish line toward a beach-perfect body. I love her philosophy and this guide too!
You will treasure it for years to come, perhaps even years after recovery. The exercise gems in Reclaim Your Strength and Hope can be enjoyed by all fitness levels.
Remember to keep moving and grooving that gorgeous body of yours. You are so worth it!
Peace and slow-like-honey hea ling,
Kris Carr

As a gynecological surgeon, I know that this isnt easy territory. Surgery, recovery in a hospital, and then the cancer treatments can all conspire to rob women of any sense of control over their bodies.
