    I always knew that I was very intuitive, but because I wanted to fit in, I tried to shut those gifts off from an early age. But, the more I listened to my emotions, the more I felt I need to use that gift.

    I always knew I was different as a little kid. I was not one of the kids you could see playing outside all the time. Although I participated in most things that other children did, they were generally inside. I knew I had a connection with all types of people. Previously, I thought it was normal, and everyone experiences it. I connected not only with my family and friends mind, but also with strangers. I could easily tap into the feelings they are experiencing and strike a sense of deep bonding and communication that most people could only dream of.

    You probably think that I fit the description of a "peoples person," but the truth is, I dont. I am not even close to that term. Having this ability is not always fun, but I will say having this trait has been helpful to me growing up, especially in a city environment that can be pretty challenging.

    For example, I have talked my way out of bullies bashing my friends and have befriended a lot of junkyard dogs that used to scare me. I have had total strangers tell me the most intimate information about them. I did not make enemies, and even my ex-partners are still my good friends. You would think this ability wouldve taken me to the upper levels of society, but it didnt.

    When I was younger, it was cool and flattering to have people ask me for advice or just be an ear to help them, but eventually, I started noticing something. Peoples problems, struggles, apprehensions, and other negative feelings affected me. Dont get me wrong. I didn't mind helping people. In fact, I enjoyed it. The only problem was that the more I felt their emotions, the more it ate me up. I felt like an emotional dumping ground for other people. This gave me a high level of anxiety, and of course, as a teen, a lot of self-medicating ensued.

    T he first time I heard the word empath was almost 3 years ago from my life coach. She mentioned that she was an empath. I asked what it meant. She said, It means I am capable of reading and understanding emotions. So, you are a person who has empathy? I asked again. No. Its more than just someone who has empathy, she responded.

    She then started explaining it further the best she could, and it got me wondering if I was also an empath.

    I could relate when she said that it had to do with knowing what people were really feeling, distancing from her body in order to cope, and searching relief in the metaphysical world.

    I learned I was an empath all along.

    I learned how this was a gift that not everyone had, and so, it deserved to be cherished. I admitted that it was not easy. In fact, it could be hard sometimes, but I learned to live with it and make the most of it.

    If theres something I regret about this whole thing, however, it is that I wish I was aware of it earlier. I wish I knew how to deal with this ability, and I could have saved myself from hours and hours of sessions with my psychiatrist talking about my mental health.

    This is something I dont want you to go through.

    So, in this book, I will give you a sneak peek into the life of an empath, how to live with this innate ability, how to overcome the common struggles and everything else you need to know in order to live a happy, content life as an empathetic person.
