The Lone Ranger. Thats what I have frequently thought myself to be especially when it comes to work. Guess thats why I loved my career in sales so much. As long as I was making quota, my boss left me alone. I had nobody reporting to me. I was doing it on my own! Never mind that there were all those people in customer service, operations, engineering, administration, accounting, and the executive staff. Ohdid I mention customers!!?? And then of course there was support from my wife, my son, my friends..
Well writing a book is a lot like that. I saw it as a personal thing. My great calling. Time for the Lone Ranger to ride again!! Not even close! So here are just some of the Tontos that helped me get this done.
Id like to start by thanking Mel Brodsky. Bugs besides being a great friend all of these years, it was when you wrote your first book, Questions are the Answers, that I was inspired to write the book that had been in my head only as a floating idea for decades. Guess that shouldnt have been a surprise as inspiration is your middle name!
Of course, this would have been simply a travelogue and diary without any Spiritual Insights if it werent for my spiritual teachers. I specifically owe HUGE posthumous appreciation to Jack and Ruth Pearlman, my parents, for being such excellent examples of spiritual wisdom appearing as kindness, patience, openness, love, and good old common sense. Any conscious understanding of spiritual laws that I was blessed with came as a direct result of the dozen years or so that I was privileged to know Martin Cecil (later Martin Exeter when he assumed his familys English title), both from his own teachings and my exposure, through Martin, to the teachings of Lloyd Arthur Meeker (known as Uranda).
Other spiritual teachers that I had along the way included John and Carol Amey, John and Pam Gray, Bill Bahan, George Emery, Jim Wellemeyer, Michael and Nancy Cecil, Roger DeWinton, Dorothy Hughes (later known as Dorathy Williams), and Alan Hammond.
My close friends Kimberly Amadeo and Phyllis Warren helped me see how my first draft could be improved and then patiently pointed out that the second draft wasnt all that great either! So, if you think this is an enjoyable, inspiring, well-written book, you might send a thank you to Kimberly and Phyllis!
My favorite, and only, but shed be my favorite even if I had 8, sister Carol was amazing in making sure I had commas where they belong and not where they dont. She also showed me the folly of my ways in starting sentences with But, although I left a few of those in just because Im stubborn. I might also mention that there would not be a single whom in this book without her guidance. It is amazing to me how much painstaking time Carol put in to help make her little brother look good. I love you, Sis!
David Banner, author of 6 books himself and a kindred spirit, also gave me valuable editorial comment without pulling any punches. It was his comments that saved you from exposure to an appendix that wasnt any more useful than the one in your body. Along with David, Michael Gaetta also took time from his very busy life to give me publishing advice. Rich Kenny turned me in the direction of e-publishing.
Pam Holloway gave me the idea of making the book into an actual journal rather than just using my journal entries. I think that was brilliant. She also helped me think of things to make the book better. Thanks Pam.
It is so much more fun using the actual names of the people in my life, so I would also like to thank the following people for granting me permission to use their real names in this book: John and Carol Amey, Ed Ordower, Joe and Sue Kittel for their son Aaron who has passed on, Carol Winkler, Jean Harvey, Dharma Kellherer, Cliff Penwell, Kate OBrien, Mel Brodsky, Sharon Pettett, Michael Cecil, Mary (Bane) Pearlman, and Phyllis Warren. I also used actual first names for Debbi, Michael, Rich, Toren, and Jason. All other names mentioned in the writing and in the journal entries have been changed and any resemblance to actual people who might have been present at the times of my life referenced is coincidental.
Preface
You know how you read an inspiring book and think, WOW that was awesome! I am going to make some changes that will alter the course of my life, but then somehow you never get around to it? Well maybe thats never happened to you but, either way, I dont want this to be that kind of book. (Youre going to hear a lot about what this book is not as we go along). So rather than just giving you a peek into my journal and my insights about life, this book is to serve as your journal and an opportunity to develop your own life-altering insights. There is an opportunity to journal following each chapter. A journal can be anything from scrap paper to a leather writers book with gold trimmed pages. Use whatever you are comfortable recording your thoughts in.
