Your Money or Your Life
The Energy of Money is empowering and exciting. Anyone who has ever been concerned about money will find both the cause of the problem and the solution in these pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the practical and eye-opening exercises throughout the book. They are very effective at getting to the heart of our relationship with money and healing it.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Nothing is created without the support of others, especially anything that moves the heart and educates the soul. We all seek to make a contribution to the lives of those around us. So it is with this book and the work from which it derives.
Thousands of participants of the You and Money Course have contributed to clarifying the concepts and insights contained here. For years this work has spread by word of mouth. In a leap of faith, Tami Simon from Sounds True, the premier purveyor of transformational tapes, provided national exposure to these ideas by producing the Energy of Money tape series. Jennifer Woodhull, Sounds True talent scout and producer, made the introduction. I met Jennifer at a Pema Chdrn meditation retreat. I went to the Sounds True studio and sat for three days in a small sound recording room, while food was shoved under the door. Tamis skillful questioning allowed me to take the You and Money material more into its present conceptual framework.
Tami introduced me to Kim Witherspoon, an intrepid and persistent agent, who decided to take me on. I am so grateful. Tami was right: she is one of the most brilliant people around. Thanks to her and the staff at Witherspoon Associates, Gideon Weil and Josh Greenhut, for holding my hand through the process of negotiating our way with publishers to a final contract with Ballantine. Thanks also to my literary attorney, Laurie Emerson, who looked out after my interests every step of the way.
I couldnt have asked for a better editor than Leslie Meredith at Ballantine Wellspring. The project was on such a tight timeline. We laughed, gasped, worried, and rejoiced together. And always she hadfaith that wed get it done. She kept me going. Cathy Elliott, her assistant, was always available for my concerns and questions.
Thanks to Rhoda McKnight and Margarita Camarena for their generosity, creativity, and persistence in working on the illustrations.
This book and the You and Money work has gotten a lot of spiritual support. Thanks to Reverend Wayne Manning, Reverend Mary Tumpkin, Reverend Diane Sickler, and Reverend Shay St. John. Special thanks to my best friend, Reverend Beth Ann Suggs, who has always helped me to keep true to my spiritual center.
Three people helped me write this book: Rita Saenz, Carol Costello, and Donna Frazier. First, I want to thank Rita. She has been my business partner for twenty-two years and has held my kite string. None of this work would have been possible without her brilliance, courage, compassion, and faith in me. She has always known who I am, even when I forget. She is a true manifestation of abundance in my life.
Carol Costello, editor extraordinaire, incisive writer, true friend, gifted thinker, helped bring precision to this manuscript. She jumped in with a gentle hand, helped me separate everything that the book was not, thereby leaving the principles in their pristine form.
Donna Frazier, editor on the first phase of this book, helped me give it form. Her consistency, creativity, and guidance were invaluable in helping me clarify the Twelve Principles.
There would also have been no book without the support of people who were eager to lend a hand in a compassionate and empowering way. First, Charlotte Higgins, a busy author, actor, and playwright, and coach, helped me keep my promises in writing this manuscript, and never gave up on me. Wendy Jordan, through her generosity, has continued to support this work. Thanks to Sharon Taymor for enthusiastic encouragement in getting this book published. I deeply appreciate Lori Pelliccia and Walter Steinlauf for all the time they put into reasearch and copyediting for the book. My deep gratitude to all the Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area, and Austin You and Money coaches for all theyve done to keep this work going.
Finally, to my family, who has always sustained me, I owe a debt of gratitude. Thank you for your love: Aunt Gloria, Uncle Arnold, Lisa, Chuck, Rachael and Bea Simon; Susie and Andrea Saenz; Bruce, Judy, Margot, and Natalie Parks; Nancy and Robert DeCandia; Toni and Jerry Yaffe.
