An essential element of emergency care consists of providing supplemental oxygen. Anyone expected to use a medical oxygen device, i.e. workplace first aid responder, EMS responder or Medical Center responder can benefit from this program. Oxygen Administration effectively outlines the importance and use of portable medical oxygen equipment. This course describes the various prescription and emergency devices available, when and how to use them on breathing and non-breathing patients, how to maintain and store devices and cylinders, and the legal issues surrounding use by non-medical workplace first aid responders. This textbook is ideally suited for students in appropriate allied health programs. Upon successful completion of the course, they are eligible to receive FREE National Safety Council course completion cards for Oxygen Administration.

Welcome Message
Welcome to Oxygen Administration.
It is a fact that human and animal life cannot survive without oxygen. This odorless, tasteless, colorless gas in the air we breathe has been called "the fuel of the body."
Having enough oxygen is especially critical to the survival of a sick or injured person. Therefore, knowing when and how to administer oxygen in emergency situations is vital in the basic meaning of that word. The National Safety Council is providing this comprehensive oxygen administration program to teach people everything they need to know about medical oxygen and its uses.
Oxygen Administration contains current, technical information meant for workplace first aid responders, community emergency medical service (EMS) responders, and medical center/health care providers. Because giving someone oxygen is a form of emergency treatment, our training covers everything from the legal aspects, types of oxygen devices, and related delivery systems, to the labeling, refilling, maintenance, and transport of cylinders. Learn these lessons well and apply your training. Some day, your knowledge of how to work with oxygen will help to save a life.
Good luck to you in your study of this vital topic.
Sincerely,
T.C. GILCHREST PRESIDENT NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL
