Just start hanging around the wide diversity of people in the paleo community for even a brief period of time and youll notice something truly amazing considering this modern-day movement is not yet fully established itself and has yet to become accepted within mainstream health circles. It is comprised of real people sharing about their life experiences embodied in all the new media means of communication such as blogs, podcasts, social media, books, and more. When I first started talking about these alternative nutritional health concepts nearly a decade ago after losing 180 pounds, you could hear the crickets chirping it was so silent out there. But now if you put your ear to the ground and listen carefully, you can hear the distant roar of a large pack of wild animals galloping towards you in an unstoppable show of strength.

Its coming and you had better be ready for it.

This eclectic group of individuals describing themselves as paleo is unified behind the central theme of helping others find their path to health and harmony in their lives. They do this by using the talents they have been gifted with to share with everyone they can about how some rather simple changes in diet, fitness, and lifestyle can make all the di ff erence in their overall health and general well-being. This is the overriding message that ignites the passion and zeal of the two unique individuals behind this book - Joe Salama and Jason Goldberg. If this book is any indication of the way these two fellas who are obviously friends interact in real life, then somebody needs to give them their own reality show!

Im not quite sure how to describe the writing style of The Tao of Paleo for you other than to say it is arguably the most unique paleo book youll ever read in your life. Think Beavis and Butt-Head meets The Flintstonesfire, fire, meat, meat, fire, fire, yabba dabba doo! Youll have a gay old time indeed as you work your way through the pages of this book eavesdropping in on two buds talking about the concepts of paleo while caught in a bad bromance. If you dont already know Joe and Jason, then youll feel like you did after making it through this book. The casual conversations youre gonna see in this book are the exact kind of verbal interactions that can and must happen if paleo is ever going to penetrate our culture and become a regular part of the health conversation.

In case its not completely obvious rather quickly in this book, Joe and Jason are completely whacked out - but in a very good way! They let you in on an intimate and critically important conversation they are having about this subject that you can tell they are super-passionate about discussing. You could almost imagine theyre like that loud group of guys having dinner at the table next to you and sharing compelling information that you cant help but want to hear. What makes it so entertaining is the infusion of their larger-than-life personalities while disseminating the nuts and bolts of what it means to be paleo. One thing you wont say about this book is that its boring. Hardly!

Reading through this book was a bit like listening to Cheech and Chong if they ever decided to adopt paleo in earnest and start talking about it. Except theres no obvious whiff of wacky weed in the air here. What you see is what you get from these two authentically paleo dudes who are taking what they know, sharing it with as many people as possible, and having some fun along the way. If everyone in the paleo community made a commitment to doing this, then the movement would make great strides faster than a speeding bullet. So you might be wondering what youve gotten yourself into with this book, huh? Well, despite my description of the whimsical nature of The Tao of Paleo, dont let that mislead you into thinking its not a serious book. Humor is a fantastic way of diffusing the apprehension that some people may have regarding the paleo lifestyle and you get heaps of it throughout these pages. But what those funny bits do is open up the door of opportunity for learning, understanding, and building wisdom that can change your life just like it changed the lives of Joe Salama and Jason Goldberg.

The time for releasing your inner paleo has come. Breathe it in deeply and let it out slowly. Youll be glad you did.

I am Darryl Edwards (also known as The Fitness Explorer), author of the book Paleo Fitness published by Ulysses Press, and founder of Fitness Explorer Training & Nutrition based in London, England. I am a certified personal trainer and paleo nutritionist who focuses on a playful approach to movement and activity, especially useful for those who dont particularly love to exercise.

I became impassioned about helping others after witnessing my own health improve significantly upon adopting an ancestral approach to well-being several years ago. With The Tao of Paleo it is immediately obvious that Joe Salama and Jason Goldberg, the authors behind this book, are also passionate about assisting others find a path to health. Most paleo books are focussed on food, with the premise being that if we consume foods that humans were designed to eat we will achieve optimal health and vitality. It is evident some foods nurture health while other foods will promote illness. However, this premise can sometimes fall short - but not because food isnt that significant. After all a diet based on paleo principles can deliver remarkable success when it comes to delivering weight-loss, improving health and preventing disease based on the evidence of many (myself included). There is no doubt, food is the foundation of good health.

However, man does not live on diet alone: What can we do during the rest of the day when we are not eating food that can further our pursuit of good health? What should our approach to fitness be? How should we more e ff ectively manage stress? What else should I consider? Well The Tao of Paleo presents a more holistic approach to the paleo lifestyle. Not just eating, but the doing, the being, and the thinking as to what constitutes good health - for example what activities you should undertake, practical suggestions to improve the quality of your sleep, and tips on planning lifestyle changes that will make the transition easier. Once you look beyond the paleo surface and dig deeper, the realisation is that paleo is a gateway to other aspects of tuning into our bodies ancestral heritage, enabling us to make better decisions that will enhance health based on what nature intended. What is particularly interesting is the lighthearted approach in this book. Presented in a conversational style, both authors are bouncing back and forth ideas, thoughts and anecdotes o ff ering insight into various wellbeing concepts. Joe and Jason make suggestions and o ff er solutions to questions often asked in the paleo community.
