Michael D. Bayles was Director of the Westminster Institute for Ethics and Human Values at Westminster College, London, Canada, before taking his present post as Professor of Philosophy, University of Florida, Gainesville. He is the author of Principles of Legislation: The Uses of Political Authority (1978), Morality and Population Policy (1980), Professional Ethics (1981), Reproductive Ethics (1984), and Principles of Law (1987). He is the editor of Contemporary Utilitarianism (1978), Ethics and Population (1976), and the coeditor of Medical Treatment of the Dying: Moral Issues (with Dallas M. High, 1978), Right Conduct: Theories and Applications (with Kenneth Henley, 1982), and Justice, Rights and Tort Law (with Bruce Chapman, 1983). More than seventy of his articles have been published in professional journals.
Abraham Edel, Research Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania since 1974, served for more than forty years as an outstanding teacher at the City University of New York. Recipient of numerous academic and professional honors, Edel is the author or editor of a dozen books, including The Theory and Practice of Philosophy (1946), Ethical Judgment: The Use of Science in Ethics (1955), Anthropology and Ethics (with May Edel, 1959; rev. ed., 1970), Science and the Structure of Ethics (1961), Method in Ethical Theory (1963), Analyzing Concepts in Social Science (1979), Exploring Fact and Value (1980), Aristotle and His Philosophy (1982), and Interpreting Education (1985).
Warner A. Wick, late William Rainey Harper Professor, Department of Philosophy, University of Chicago, and editor of Ethics, is the author of Metaphysics and the New Logic (1942) and a group of penetrating articles on ethics and the philosophy of Kant, including "Truth's Debt to Freedom," "Kant's Moral Philosophy," "Generalization and The Basis of Ethics," "The Pursuit of Wisdom: Reflections on Some Recent Pursuers," and ''Social Problems in Precept and Example." administration at Chicago, he served as Dean of Students in the Humanities, Associate Dean of the College, Dean of Students in the University, Master of the Humanities Collegiate Division, and Associate Dean of the Division of the Humanities.
John Lachs, Professor of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University since 1967, has distinguished himself as a teacher and scholar. He is the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa Faculty Award, the E.
