I t all began a couple of years ago I went home for Christmas and my lovely - photo 39

I t all began a couple of years ago. I went home for Christmas and my lovely sister-in-law offered me a delicious apple cider caramel. As I housed one after another, after another and yikes, almost all of them I slipped into a blissful, fantastical, sugary stupor. In my dreamlike state, I vaguely remember asking her where in the hell she purchased such sugary delights. I made them, I think she said, as I drifted off into a diabetic coma. When I woke up and became somewhat coherent, I asked her again. I made them, she replied. Super easy. Ill e-mail you the recipe.

And so it began. I came home to L.A., ready to makes some caramels and change lives. Off to the grocery store I went. Candy thermometer? Check. Apple cider? Check. Recipe? Check. Super easy, I repeated, clicking through photos on the DIY website. I couldnt wait to sink my teeth into those cavity creators. It was go time.
