Introduction Picture 6

Every relaxation technique in this book takes a minute or less. If you dont believe me, flip to a random page right now and have a go at something. Go on. In just one minute, you will start to feel more relaxed.

Too often in the past self-help has been sharp-suited men ordering you across hot coals, or blokes with ponytails waving incense around, telling you, change doesnt come quickly. That was all a bit too much like hard work. No thanks. This is different. Its down-to-earth and on your level. It works quickly and efficiently, which Ive found is particularly important with people who are desperate to relax.

So why did you start reading this? Perhaps it was because of stress or a lack of calm caused by something in your life? This could be in any area, such as work, relationships, money, arguments, anxiety, internal thoughts, time (or lack of ), age, family, divorce, loss of loved ones, deadlines, illness, sex issues, weight gain, anger, loneliness or low self-esteem.

It might also be because you are nervous in some way, perhaps you have a big speech or presentation coming up, youre starting a new job or even going to a party where you dont know very many people.

Whatever your reason for wanting to learn to relax, this book will work for you. The exercises have been specifically designed so that you can fit them to suit your individual circumstances. Its not much fun dwelling on all the reasons why we might feel stressed, fearful and unable to unwind. From now on, youll find the chapters deal with positive ways to help you relax, whatever your situation.

Youll read about: the famous sportsman who got out a pen and drew on his clothing to help him relax at critical moments; the author and businessman who is so laid back he only checks his email once a week; and even how acting like a rock star can help you in your quest for relaxation.

Youll also learn how to use email, Facebook, Twitter, iPhones and modern technology to help you to relax. And how switching off helps you to relax too.

Some people say, How can this stuff possibly make a difference when Ive been worrying about it for years, and you say it only takes a minute to get better?

In fact, if thats the case and you have been worrying about something for a long time, these techniques are absolutely the best thing you could possibly do. Many people live with stress and worry for ages without ever doing anything about it. Ive made it easy to take the first step. And the second the third and the fourth And from there who knows what you can achieve.

If you feel you are clinically depressed, or so stressed that you simply cant cope, then please see a doctor. If you have physical symptoms such as headaches, feeling ill, nausea or high blood pressure then, again, see a doctor. If you are epileptic please consult your doctor before using the techniques in this book. They are not meant to replace medical advice. However this book can help you make huge changes and start to relax.

Some people, especially those who dont get enough sleep, sometimes want to drop off when they use the stuff I talk about. For that reason, do not practise any of these techniques while driving. Only use them when it is safe to do so. And if you are somebody who is sleep-deprived, then youll probably be turning to , Sleep.

One final thought. Keep going. Dont give up. If you meet a challenge, dont worry thats normal honest. Nobody has it all their own way. Its how you deal with that challenge. For more on the value of persistence and effort and how to keep at it, go to , The Future. The more effort you put in, the more reward you will get and the more relaxed a person youll become.
