PREFACE

I profoundly thank the architects, consultants, designers, contractors, builders, faade engineers and facility managers who have given a very good reception and review to my following earlier books

Faade Access Systems Solutions, Systems and Applications

Faade Access Engineering Excellence meets Architectural Challenges

It is a pleasure to be back with this third book covering one of the most challenging tasks some of us are quite often required to do, which is to reach man-made high-rise structures to perform various tasks. The first of the two books in this series covered all about faade access systems covering all buildings and systems. The second book covered top iconic Projects with challenging architectures around the world and equally challenging faade Access Systems to access and maintain them.

This third book Human Access to High-rise Structures deals with mostly temporary access systems though some can have permanent applications as well. This book however includes building faade with emphasis on temporary human access for building faade construction, re-construction and maintenance. The range of coverage in this book include monuments, wind mills, industrial structures, steel structures, marine installations and human access related to high-rise infrastructure including bridges, electric transmission and lighting towers, stadiums, dams, tanks and storage silos. This book does not cover permanently installed faade access equipment for buildings since the same has been covered in my two earlier books.

This book enjoys the benefit of my experience gained through my direct involvement in over 750 faade access and industrial access system projects for over 25 years in several countries in many varied types of projects ranging from straightforward buildings to complex projects and towers up to 600 m height.

In addition to the numerous design-and-build projects, the knowledge gained from many of the worlds best experts in this field has also contributed to this book a great deal. After being involved in many projects from concept to commissioning stages and after becoming a consultant in this field, it is a great pleasure to share my knowledge that I have acquired all along. Though a sincere attempt has been made to cover most of the important issues related to the subject, valuable suggestions for improvement are most welcome and will be immensely appreciated.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
