Disclaimer
This book is not intended as a means of diagnosing illness or disease, nor is it meant to prescribe treatments for curing illness or disease. Wherever the words heal or healing appear, it is intended that the protocols themselves do not heal, but rather facilitate the bodys own ability to heal itself.
While many of these protocols may be useful, it is important to note that, in general, they are not supported by scientific research or evidence-based studies. Any physical or mental health challenges you may be experiencing should be addressed by a qualified physician and/or psychotherapist.
Introduction
Energy healing primarily exists in a domain outside of traditional allopathic or Western medicine. The intention of this book is to familiarize readers with energy healing and to encourage them to experiment with energy-healing practices. It does not attempt to provide scientific proof to support the therapies nor reference any research studies that aim to do so.
Exploring energy as medicine is a journey into embracing a more right-brained approach. If youre mostly analytical and methodical in your thinking, youre said to be left-brained. If you tend to be more creative or artistic, youre thought to be right-brained. This approach does not need to understand, know, believe, or prove an experience, but instead opts to trust in and allow an experience as it unfolds. Most of these energy-healing phenomena exist in fields of energy that cannot easily be measured by modern science. If we acknowledge that because of technical limitations in measuring subtle energy forces, proving the efficacy of energy healing is not possible, then we are able to focus on using intuition and intention to have an experience of energy and observe what occurs.
The practice of using energy to improve the wellbeing of others has been around for millennia. In biblical times, energy was directed from one person to another by healers who performed a laying on of hands to heal illness and disease. Today, modern clergy continue to bestow blessings on the faithful by holding the palms of their hands toward the congregation during a service.
Historically, indigenous tribes around the world have used energy healing medicine, reciting prayers and blessings, as well as using herbs and plants, in sacred ceremonies. The yogis of India, along with the Hindu and Buddhist monks of Asia, developed meditation practices and types of martial arts that facilitated the flow of the Universal Life Force Energy (also known as prana or chi/qi) for healing purposes. More recently, kings and sorcerers of medieval Europe, as well as early American witches, were known to use incantations and to curse or cast spells on their enemies.
Ancient energy healing and wellness processes have evolved into a variety of yoga and meditation practices and subtle energy medicine modalities such as Reiki (see ). Using both subtle energy practices and physical exercise, we can intentionally affect the bodys energetic fields for healing purposes. Having an awareness of what energy is and how it works, we can then seek out and access the power of energy healing to address specific issues and so promote health and wellbeing.

CHAPTER 1
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF ENERGY HEALING
When you first encounter energy healing, it can seem like a mysterious and esoteric practice that involves an element of magical thinking, or rituals of prayer and chanting, to spontaneously heal an injury or disease. There are no pills to take or procedures to follow, so how can energy actually heal?
