Preface

We are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the 6th edition of the EAI SmartCity360 International Convention (SmartCity360 2020) which, due to the safety concerns and travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, took place online in a live stream performed via the Zoom platform. Taking into account the commitment of the entire team involved in this event, the technical and scientific quality was not affected in any way by the restrictions that this year imposed.

This volume of proceedings refers to seven of the conferences co-located at the convention in distinct areas of the smart cities field, which brought together researchers, developers, and practitioners from all around the world.

AISCOVID 2020 (the 1st International Conference on AI-assisted Solutions for COVID-19 and Biomedical Applications in Smart-Cities) received nine contributions to the current state of the art, reporting results for the AI techniques used in the computer network-assisted diagnosis of COVID-19 and similar diseases. It shed light on potential mobile Internet, big data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other modern information technology applications that can build the required online and cost-efficient medical service platforms.

Edge-IoT 2020 (the 2nd International Conference on Intelligent Edge Processing in the IoT Era) received eight contributions. EdgeIoT was created as a flagship conference aiming at addressing the decentralization of contemporary processing paradigms, notably edge processing, focusing on the increasing demand for intelligent processing at the edge of the network, which is paving the way to the intelligent IoT era.

IC4S 2020 (the 2nd International Conference on Cognitive Computing and Cyber Physical Systems) received four contributions that presented fundamental principles for both the integration of cyber and physical elements and the infrastructure for building Cyber Physical Systems (CPS), highlighting the design, implementation, and investigation of CPS applications.

CICom 2020 (the 1st International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Communications) received six contributions. The tracks fcused on how to apply computational intelligence for big data, the Internet of Things, wireless networks, intelligent transportation systems, and cyber security.

S-CUBE 2020 (the 12th International Conference on Sensor Systems and Software) received five contributions that focused on the state of the art in the broad area of system development and software support for wireless sensors networks (WSN).

SmartGov 2020 (the 3rd International Conference on Smart Governance for Sustainable Smart Cities) received five contributions that addressed mainly the rapid change in the ways that cities and settlements have to be managed and also how emerging digital technologies offer new ways for local government to understand and monitor the dynamics of the city.

Finally, Urb-IoT 2020 (the International Conference on IoT in Urban Space) received five contributions focused on exploring the urban space and its dynamics within the scope of the Internet of Things and the new science of cities.

Coordination between all members of the entire team was fundamental to the success of this convention. A word of appreciation to the President of the European Agency Alliance, Prof. Imrich Chlamtac, to the Conference Team Supervisor, Karolina Marcinova, and all Conference Managers who have impeccably supported all the logistics of each of the conferences involved in the convention. A word of appreciation also to all Conference Chairs and to the entire Organizing Committee who have professionally contributed to the success and scientific quality of the publications that are part of this volume. To the reviewers, also a word of appreciation for the time they dedicated to making their precious contributions to further raise the scientific quality of the final version of the papers.
