Losing fat after the age of forty is a problem that most men and women face and it can be daunting to sift through all the information out there! But you dont have to worry anymore. We are going to get down to what you can do, starting today, to lose that fat!

Its important to know why our body holds on to fat in the first place and to be honest, there are several reasons. For women, the hormones have a lot to do with it. Between our estrogen levels dropping and our change in activity, our bodies just cant seem to work the way they used to. But the most important reason you have trouble losing that fat is because of your bodies need to survive and your fat is like the insurance policy.

Your body wants to do whatever it needs to do to survive and so it adapts to all the changes you throw at it whether its exercising more or eating less. Its called the adaptive response and is why its so hard to lose fat, especially after forty.

If you have ever tried to lose weight before, you have probably experienced the dreaded dieters Plateau before you actually reached your goal. And if you are like me, you have tried to get past it by doing some pretty drastic stuff, like starving yourself or trying some type of fat burning pills or hitting the treadmill for hours on end,


only to find that not only did it not work, but you felt terrible as well.

That is all over now. No more starving and no more pills, potions or quick fixes that dont work anyway. Its time to get off the roller coaster and find a plan that actually works for you while allowing you to live and enjoy your life without the stress that food can bring to those of us that are always trying to lose fat.

Arent you tired of the low carb, low calorie, dont eat this, and give up that, lifestyle? And whats even worse is that even if you manage to stick with it for a while, there is always the fear of losing control and gaining the weight back after you have sacrificed for so long!

Plus, you have to live your life in a way thats just not fun. Always planning around food doesnt allow you to have spontaneous moments with friends, attend parties and enjoy meals without guilt.

Anytime we diet or restrict what we eat, our brain starts to sabotage our efforts before we have even gotten started and you either start to feel on edge, get angry at the smallest things, or binge and go totally nuts! Yes, you know exactly what Im talking about dont you? We have all been there!

But not anymore. I have tried it all, and when I turned forty I began to realize that I was sick of diets! I needed to find a way to eat what I wanted without gaining weight and adding a layer of fat to my stomach and butt. That was just not an option. And you know what? I have found a way to actually do it.

Let me be clear. I did not learn this overnight. I have read and studied everything I could get my hands on as far as the science of how food affects our bodies and how proteins, carbohydrates and fats really work with our system to either store fat or burn it off.

I have been my own guinea pig and have enlisted my friends and family as well to be sure it would work for all of us, and you know what? At forty-six I started a new way to eat and at forty-nine I am still working the program. Why? Because it works. And it doesnt just work for me; it will work for you too!

So, there is just one question I want to ask you

First Steps to Success

Making the decision to lose the fat is really the biggest decision you will make. And once you do, you have made it over the most important hurdle.

So what other steps do you need to take that will get you to your goal?

Step 1 Have a concrete goal to reach. Do you want to drop ten pounds? Get into your skinny jeans? Lose five inches off your waist?

In order to reach your goal, you need to know exactly what that goal is and put a plan together in order to reach it. Just like you wouldnt drive cross country without mapping out your journey, you wont lose the fat if you dont have a plan.

Step 2 Write it down. Having goals is great, but if you dont write it down and keep track of your progress, you wont be able to tell if you are getting closer to your objective.

So your goals should be:

  • Realistic you are not going to lose ten pounds of fat in a day. You need to stop obsessing about your weight and get real. By looking at your options, you will have a clearer picture about how you can get there.
  • Measurable One of the great motivators in any type of activity is measuring where you are and keeping track of your progress.
  • When you first start, take your measurements and write down your weight and if you really want to see a visual, take a photo too. Then, as you progress, continue to keep track of your measurements and your weight. Its amazing how great it will feel to see that you have lost three inches on your waistline!

Step 3 Dont give up. Nothing happens overnight. Find a program that you can live with and stay with it. In order to do that, you need to dedicate yourself to reaching your goals. The great part is that although I will give you some great information about working out, you will decide on how you want to do it, but I have the plan for how you will eat right here!

Your body is like a machine with an engine. I know you dont think of it that way. We were brought up to think emotionally about our bodies, which is a good thing except when it comes to losing fat. Then we need to let go of emotion and trust the science.

If you take a minute and really think about it, you will begin to understand that our bodies are the greatest survivors. And to be honest, that is all your body is interested in. It doesnt care if you hate your fat thighs or want to lose belly fat. It takes what you give it and uses it based on survival, not emotion.

The Cave Man Days

Long ago, our ancestors didnt have pantries and refrigerators full of foods. There were no fast foods, processed foods and easy to reach items to grab on your way out to work. They ate from the land and had to hunt, kill, and cook over an open fire in the wilderness.

Look at any photos from the cave man era and you may notice something.

They are not fat.

Present Time

Take a look at what we have available now. We have every convenience. We have refrigerators so we can buy food from the grocery store and keep it cold. We have pantries stocked full of canned foods, junk foods, and the all important protein bars to take with us when we are on the run. And we can pick up something quick when we are out.

But we also are fatter than in any time in history.

Why?

Because our bodies have adapted to the junk we feed it. Your body can respond to whatever you put it through and its always ready to fight back. So every time you start that new fad diet, or alter your eating in any way, your body is going to do whatever it needs to do to be sure it wont starve. And one of those things it does is to hold on to the fat.
