Focusing on Action
What I like about this book is that it provides actions that individuals can take to improve their performance. Without action, nothing changes.
Leanne Percy, Manager, Curriculum and Training Services, Australian Institute of Management
Focusing on Behaviour and Goal-setting
The focus on personal behaviour and the fundamental aspect of setting clear goals provides valuable guidance for us all whatever the stage of our careers.
Miles Templeman, Director General of the Institute of Directors (IOD)
Giving Clear Structure
I particularly liked the structure of each chapter, which has a nice blend of theory, practical guidance, and case studies. This for me is an excellent recipe for rapid learning and development.
Alan Manning, Head of Human Resources, Fife Constabulary
Developing Effectively
Contains expert guidance on the development of the manager as an individual, their own team and their relationships with other leaders and managers. The inclusion of a team development programme, based not on theory but on successful experience, is an unexpected bonus.
Alex McPhee, Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Support, East Ayrshire Council
Fulfilling Potential
A tragedy of business life is the unfulfilled potential that walks away from each workplace, never to return. The success story of business life is the number of people who exceed the expectations of others (and sometimes themselves) by using some under-rated but vital skills to make the most of their potential. Rupert Eales-White writes of these skills in Winning Ways to Work.
Jonathan Bond, Director of HR & Learning, Pinsent Mason
Improving Individual Performance
Results in any organisation are delivered through the performance of its people. Winning Ways to Work provides practical guidance for those who wish to take ownership of their own personal development. No matter what stage they are at in their career, this book has something in it for anyone who wants to improve their performance at work and consequently produce better results for their organisation. It would be a great accompaniment for anyone planning his or her career development.
Alan Manning, Head of Human Resources, Fife Constabulary
Improving Team Performance
Ruperts principles and approach worked every time across job levels and national cultures. When his techniques have been practiced sufficiently to become habitual, they result in huge leaps forward in creativity and decision-taking. They also refresh the parts other approaches cannot reach, building strength and confidence for both the team and the individual.
Martin Pexton, former Personnel Director of Allen & Overy, Corporate Development Director of London Merchant Securities, MD of LMS Capital
Improving Leadership Competence
Contains practical wisdom and psychological insights that together are indispensable to becoming an effective leader.
Miles Emley, Master of the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, Chairman of St Ives plc (1993-2011)

Draws effectively on a career, rich with experience and learning. Indeed, it is the wisdom acquired from learning which provides strength and authenticity to the key messages the book successfully delivers.
Bryan Smith, Editor, Industrial and Commercial Training, Emerald Group Publications Ltd; former Director of Studies at Sundridge Park Management Centre
Dedication
This book is dedicated to the memory of my beloved brother Gavin Cushny (n Eales-White). Gavin was a dual citizen of the USA and UK. He was murdered on 11th September 2001 by Osama Bin Laden. Gavin was working on the 104th floor of the North Tower, which the first Boeing hit. Gavin was a man of enormous courage, indomitable will and hunger for life. Though trapped above the Boeing, he nearly broke free from the building. His body was found in a stairwell with another victim and twelve of those incredibly brave New York firemen. He did not die alone.
FOREWORD
I have always been an avid self-help book purchaser. Endless delays at international airports, desperate last minute birthday gifts, and temptation striking during any visit to my favourite book shop, resulting in a mountain of disappointment.
I can count the really helpful publications on a dozen fingers.
The main lesson I take from the many flops is, simply, that the truly outstanding and influential business leader is rarely an effective teacher/coach by way of the written word.
The majority of failed missives suffer from the same characteristics; lack of coherence, poor evidence supporting confident conclusions, impossible navigation for the reader, and a dearth of relevant case studies and practical examples.
I was attracted by the content of Rupert E-Ws book, as it clearly avoided these negatives. The content covers, very economically, the important link between strategy and implementation, supported by clear examples, which illustrate his conclusions.
