Chapter 1: The History of Suspension Workout
W hat is Suspension Workout?
The Suspension Workout is a training workout regimen that uses a suspension trainer and utilizes gravity and the persons own body weight, to turn every exercise into a challenge for the core muscles. There is no need for heavy gym equipment or a gym to train using the Suspension Workout method. All you need is a secure spot to anchor the suspension straps and you are good to go. Any secure place in your home or outside your house will. You can use a doorframe, a tree, a pole, or a weight machine. Then all you need to do is use your feet or hands to hold onto the straps, depending on the exercise you want to do.
T he Birth of Suspension Workout
The suspension workout was developed by Randy Hetrick, a former United States Navy SEAL. While he was on tour in Asia, he had no access to workout equipment or enough space for workouts to condition his body, which is an important aspect of being a soldier. Thus, without a training facility for exercise, he experimented and stitched together some jujitsu belt and some nylon webbing that was used to repair parachute harnesses. The result was crude equipment that was Y-shaped with handles that can also be used as stirrups. With it, he was able to do curls, pull-ups, legworks, core exercises, and a seemingly endless variation of moves. The rest of his team loved the contraption and named it the gizmo. However, back then, Hetrick didnt think his invention would gain popularity.
When he retired from the military in 2001, he enrolled in a business school, but being married, with a baby on the way, he was slacking behind his academic performance. Then he thought that the gizmo might pull him up. He tested and tweaked his design with the help of elite athletes and his SEAL buddies until the ultimate Suspension Workout was born.

From military exercise equipment, the innovation and workouts that can be done with it are now popularly known as suspension workout.
The suspension trainer itself consists of two pieces of six or seven feet super heavy nylon strips with attached handles and straps at the end. Every side has an adjustable length and the handles are made of soft foam, which allows for a great grip, a crucial element to support your body weight.
Will it be able to handle your weight? Yes. The suspension trainer has been thoroughly weight-tested. The straps are strong enough that what you need to be worried about is if the anchor you have attached your suspensions to can handle your weight while being suspended. So you have to ensure that your suspensions are attached to an object with a very stable construction (such as a doorframe) or robust foundation (such as a tree or a pole).
Chapter 2: How Suspension Workout Builds Muscle Strength
The Basics of Suspension Workout
Suspension workout is a type of resistance exercise that uses the suspension straps, the high-performance training tool that uses the users body weight and gravity to complete hundreds of exercises. It combines both strength training and body weight training. Suspension workouts encompass bodyweight workouts that allow you to do various exercise movements that aim to develop flexibility, balance, strength, and joint stability at the same time. By using dynamic positions and functional movements, this exercise also develops the bodys physical strength, the process of which is known as strength training.
