How many leaders truly know their cause and purpose in life and pursue it with a passion that makes others envious? Few. How many of those leaders translate that passion into their enterprise? Fewer still. Readers of A CEOs Secret Weapon discover how to do exactly that.
Frumi Barr employs the theory of projecting your inner self into the company. She harnesses the power of knowing your Why to implement solutions that work. Says Frumi, Harness your inner passionwhatever it isto become the most committed advocate for your cause that ever existed. With the help of A CEOs Secret Weapon, that is a realistic goal.
The book accomplishes this objective in 10 powerful chapters; each shining a bright light on the most potentially disruptive and destructive issues facing business leaders and CEOs every day. Frumi deconstructs each, then shows just how to navigate around the rocks and shoals that can punch a hole in the hull. Chapter 4, High Stakes Conversations, for example, shows how anyone can harness dissention and turn it to their advantage. Have an aggressive subordinate? Want to turn that aggression into a productively assertive leader? Read on. Indeed, High Stakes Conversations leaves nothing to chance that could derail the success you deserve. Frumi shows you how. The other 9 chapters are just as essential and produce the same phenomenal results.
But wait. Theres more. The book uses case studies to illustrate ways to best implement the Leaders passion for their cause, purpose and Why. Peppered throughout the book are: CEOs real life examples of the most confounding issues they face and what they did about them. Some succeeded, some didnt. Frumi dissects what went right and what they could have done to achieve a different outcome.

Whether you lead a combat fighter squadron or a group of CPAs, sooner or later youll need to strengthen your teams cohesiveness (Chapter 7, Making Your Why Come Alive) in the face of new challenges. Frumi shows you how.

Dedication

To Soldier Sam, an incredible man who I had thehonor of calling Daddy. He made his final journey May8th, 2012 with his family (including me and my ownchildren) at his bedside in Montreal.

The paradox was that this gentle man survivedWorld War II after being in the first of the Special Forces, ajoint US and Canadian force. He was the first Jewish Canadianparatrooper barely making it over the 55 height limit. Of the1800 men who joined the force, over 1400 never returned frombattle. By the grace of God my Daddy was one of those whoreturned.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and an Entrepreneur. He would have loved to have this book when hestarted on his entrepreneurial adventure. I learned a lot form hisperseverance and can do attitude.

Foreword

To be aleader you only need one thing and one thing only: Followers.Thats it. A follower is someone who raises his or her hand andchooses to go in the direction you point. They volunteer to work tohelp advance towards the vision or destination the leader lays out.Often they will do it at personal sacrifice. Not because they wereasked to, but because they choose to.

Authority can get people to do things. However, having authority does not make someone a leader. A leaderis only a leader when others choose to follow. The question is, whyshould anyone follow you?

I have learned that the great leadersthosewith the capacity to inspire others to act, everyone from MartinLuther King, Jr. to Steve Jobs all think, act and communicate theexact same wayand its the complete opposite to the rest of us.What I have learned is that they all start with Whythe purpose, cause or belief that drives us. A clear sense of Why you do whatyou do is like an internal compass. No matter in which directionyou face, that compass does not change the way it faces. And justas having a compass is the only way to navigate out of the woods orreach a chosen destination, so too is a clear sense of Why the onlyway to navigate through hard times or build a vision.

Frumi Barr is one of those bright lights whojoined me in this cause that I have to inspire people to do whatinspires them. To help build a vision of a world in which the vastmajority of people wake up every single day inspired to go to workand return home fulfilled by the work they do.

Without any clichs or psychobabble, Frumifound her own style to guide leaders who inspire or who have thepotential to inspire their own Whyto get a clear sense of thefixed point to which their compass points. More valuable, sheteaches those leaders to navigate with that compass. To use theirWhy to build organizations, make decisions and decide on strategiesthat help advance their causeto help them reach the destinationthey imagine.

In the few years that I have known Frumi shehas inspired me with her undying conviction. Her undying belief inpeople. Her want to do good in the world. Her completeselflessness. I love that she has written her own book to share herideas with even more people. I know the more people who learn theseideas, the greater the chance we have to build that world Iimagine. A world in which we are inspired and fulfilled by the workwe do.

Thank you to Frumi for being a part of thismovement and good luck to all of you who are about to continue onyour journey with a remarkable guide by your side.

Inspire on!

Simon Sinek
