ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sherry Steveson has been passionate about scrapbooking for over 10 years. Finding a hobby that merged her love for photography with her gift of writing, all wrapped up in a creative outlet was the catalyst for a lifelong devotion. Her work has been published in many of the major scrapbook magazines and idea books, and she is the author of When Life Gives You Lemons (Memory Makers Books, 2008).
It always brings a thrill to her family when they see their faces on the pages of those publications. She has also found her calling teaching scrapbooking to others. Sherry currently maintains a blog at www.sherrysteveson.typepad.com. When she isnt writing, scrapbooking or teaching, she keeps a busy schedule with her three children, her husbands landscape business and training to run a marathon. dedication I would like to dedicate this book to my husband, Jason, who has supported another journey down this road of writing and creating. His endless supply of foot rubs and enduring my late nights is exactly what I needed from my best friend.
To Jacob, Madison and Fletcher, who continue to be an extension of my own heart, for making my journey of life worthwhile and fun. To my parents and sister, for all your belief and support. To all the scrapbookers I have come to know over the years that have mentioned their desire for a book like this, I hope I have fulfilled your wishes. acknowledgments I couldnt have done this without the confidence that Christine Doyle and Kristin Boys placed in me. It has been a complete pleasure to work with you again on this endeavor. I appreciate the hard work and talent of my contributors: Kimber McGray, Nic Howard, Suzy Plantamura, Jamie Harper, Rita Weiss, Cindy Tobey, Melissa Phillips, Judi VanValkinburg, Stephanie Vetne, Janet Ohlson and Katrina Simeck.
TABLE OF CONTENTS Ask any scrapbooker one thing they love about the hobby and many will say shopping for it. Shopping for supplies is as much fun as using the supplies themselves. Ironically, what plagues many of us is an overabundance of gorgeous trinkets and embellishments. Oodles of supplies can leave us overwhelmed and frustrated over what to do with it all. What we need is a resource full of fresh ideas and solutions for using embellishments. introduction This handbook is divided into 17 sections, each covering a different type of embellishment. introduction This handbook is divided into 17 sections, each covering a different type of embellishment.
I want you to use this book as a reference you go back to again and again. Each section illustrates several ways to use your embellishments in creative ways. Start by trying out the ideas yourself, and then use them as starting points for ideas of your own. In addition to the layouts, Ill show you how to complete three of the techniques in each section. These step-by-step techniques are divided into three levels designed to follow you as you grow in your creativity: Simply Create (1), Kick It Up (2) and Think Outside the Box (3). Simply Create techniques are meant for embellishment beginners and illustrate a simple technique for using embellishments.
No matter what your skill level, Kick It Up techniques will show you how to take your embellishments to the next level. And Think Outside the Box techniques will get you thinking beyond the obvious way to use embellishments and take your creativity to a new dimension. Most of the illustrated techniques in the book are simple, requiring fewer than four steps, so however creative youre getting, you can still scrap in a flash. My intention is for this book to grow with you as you acquire scrapbooking skills, and for you to find it will provide tried and true ideas that will stand the test of time. Whenever you get stuck for an idea, pull out the book. When you want to try something new, flip it open.
