Preface

When traveling around the countryinteracting with family, business associates and seminar attendees,the task is made more burdensome when having to eat out while awayfrom home. My wife and I practically have to go camping, becauseno place is safe to eat. It would be easy for me to share many waysand techniques used to avoid certain food traps. It would make fora good book on how to adjust on moments notice when impromptusituations arise when you are asked to eat with people you dontwant to offend. What may be of equal interest is how to avoid thenew high-tech means and processes by which food is beingdegenerated out of the definition of food, and into something elsefor which there may not be a name; yet this book aims at somethingcloser to home: educating the people you love so they can not onlylive longer but enjoy a quality of life worth living. Who do youknow actually wants to suffer with diabetes, organ failure or livein a bed, chair or as a vegetable? Sure, they may live long, but isit really living. Many are resorting to suicide, with or withassistance.

I was traveling in the mid-west around themiddle of the summer of 2001. It was very taxing, because I was onbusiness, and as a result of two-family funerals back-to-back, Ihad to visit family longer than I expected or intended.

My grandfather was one that had died. Hedied from cancer, whereas, he had developed a little under 100tumors throughout his body. It had gotten to the point where thevariety of foods cooked for him was primarily pork. He would onlydrink coffee and eat pork. Close family members would only cookpork for him over the years and this went on for a long time, untilhe began feeling pain when attempting to urinate. After beingforced to go to a hospital, he was diagnosed with what was thoughtto be simply prostate cancer, but upon further examination, notonly were all the other tumors detected, but the cancer had eatenall the way into his bones. It had gotten to the bone and waseating him up from the inside out.

The reason I am sharing this instance isbecause of the pride my aunts seem to exhibit in him living as longas he did have eaten as much pork as he had. It seemed like thiswas a proof or an endorsement of sorts to defend their porkconsumption against me, given that I dont eat it. They try torespect me, but I can tell its purely a mutual tolerance. I didntmake the hog, nor the poison inherently therein. It wasnt I whomade up any truths about its dangers, it was Elijah Muhammad whogot it from God, from whom I got it. To take it a step further,before Elijah was born, Gods other prophets, before raisingElijah, said the same thing through the Bible of the Christians.Therefore, is it me they are angry with or God Himself?

Many people, including my family, have along-standing false notion that not eating pork is a Muslim orJewish thing only and that to be Christian means that eating porkmakes them special, holier than the rest of us or they have aspecial clause reserved for them, which permits them clearancefrom Gods law and the inherent dangers of eating pork.

Eating pork is a serious issue among manypeople in and around my family; yet I was shocked at how high thecost of medicine has become for combating many of the ailmentscaused by this most dangerous animal.

While visiting, I was asked to purchase aprescription for an elderly relative. When paying at the pharmacy,this little bottle of twelve (12) pills cost approximately $45. I,being a little nave and out of touch when buying medicine, justknew I had been cheated and surely, I didnt want to go back to myelder having been cheated. I therefore questioned the pharmacistwho politely showed me the cost by the book.

When I got back to my elder, she informed methat the cost was correct and that once she made a call to herinsurance company it would be ok. I said, ok? I wanted to saysomething else, but I understood my elder obviously didnt see itthe way I did. Think about the luxury in which many generations ofmedicine sellers could live off others by just perpetuating badeating habits with bad food.

As the days went by, I found myselfsurrounded by my mother, three aunts and my grandmother. There wasa brief flash on television concerning pork. My mother begandiscussing an incident concerning pork, which related to her pastexperience around Muslim followers of Elijah Muhammad back in thelate 50s.

She began to share that my father was in theAir Force and that my brother, I and her were living with an aunt -my fathers sister. I was only a few months old at this time. Mymother shared how she became irritated by my uncles insistence ofher not cooking pork in his house and that it had become sounbearable that she moved out, because she just had to have hersome pork.

Three days and up until this point, mindyou, I had kept my holster (sword of truth) snapped shut so I andmy wife could socialize adequately around such a large family ofgood Christians (smile). Once my mother said what she did, ittriggered a tender spot within me, not just because of the hardshipinflicted upon me and my siblings as a result of that move or thefact it was due to an uncontrolled lust for hog meat, but for thefact she still suffers tremendously from it and is too proud toeven read to know better. Well, after hearing what she said, all ofa sudden, my snap on my holster broke.

First, I wanted to be sure her primarymotive for moving was an uncontrolled urge for the consumption ofpork. Once that was established, I pulled all by blades (of love)out. My mother is the oldest daughter; consequently, it wasimportant to neutralize her because the younger aunts were going tofollow her lead.

At first the conversation took on an air ofattacking Elijah Muhammads creditability, but what I quicklyestablished was if we went back a century or so ago, would thetruth about this animal still be the same? Yes, it would. Havingestablished that fact, it was necessary to establish whose truthwas it. The Bible helped me establish its religious justification,because they were attempting to associate eating hog as purely aMuslim or Jewish thing. I then produced Christian pastors verifyingand supporting the same truths. Then it became a racial question. Ithen established a couple white Christian evangelists to supportthe same facts.

After a while nothing was left but justrunning an elder/younger approach on me, but since I was onlysaying what God said, I was able to respectfully and with power,talk to them as a Man. Lastly, I used their own pitiful conditionof spending over $300 monthly for different pills for ailmentscaused by the very animal they are defending as safe and healthy toeat. Surely it wasnt my intention of making a fool out of them whoinsisted on rebelling, they made a fool out of themselves byrejecting the obvious.
