September 10th had dawned clear and warm. It was a beautiful day, and Jillian was a bundle of nerves, and had been for days, weeks really, as she counted down the return of Doctor Joshua McLain from England. It was one p.m., and his plane was going to land in an hour. He had given her an ultimatum. He expected her to either commit to one month training as his sub to see whether she could handle it, or never see him again because he could only be in a D/s relationship.

Three Months Ago

She hadnt really even noticed him at first. Over the years, there had been a lot of visitors to the inn she ran. Looking back, she couldnt believe that shed missed taking notice of the handsome, magnetic doctor, but there had been several emergencies to deal with, not the least of which was her youngest sister Sandys dramatic breakup with yet another boyfriend, so it wasnt until late the third and last night of his stay when shed been gone into the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea and shed found him in there, enjoying a cup of coffee while making notes on some papers.

He didnt look like the weedy academic shed been expecting possibly wearing tweed jackets with leather elbow patches and thick eyeglasses. He looked more like a doctor from some television show or maybe from one of the steamy books hidden away on her e-reader. He was tall, at least six feet of muscle and sinew with broad shoulders and taut abs. He looked powerful under his tight T-shirt. His hair was dark, worn just a little long like he was overdue for a trim. His jaw was firm, and his cheekbones were sharply cut under the light stubble. He had light-gray eyes fringed with thick, dark lashes that would make any woman envious and made it look almost like he was wearing eyeliner.

Those eyes. She sighed. Those eyes seemed to bore right into her, hypnotizing her. Hed stood when she entered. She started to apologize for disturbing him, but somehow, shed ended up sitting down while he brewed her a cup of tea, carefully adding just enough milk to please her.

She started to argue that she should be serving him, but with a look, he had her subsiding into her chair. It was quite a shock to her system. Shed been running things for so long. But when he demanded to know when shed last eaten, shed answered honestly that it had been breakfast. And then shed sat there, stunned, as he made her two sandwiches and watched over her as she ate them both.

Hed ended up putting aside his papers and chatting with her while she ate. He was handsome and funny and so smart. Shed been shy at first. Never before had she felt such an instant attraction to a man. Then again, she didnt have a heck of a lot of experience. Shed had a boyfriend in high school, but that had ended when he went away to university, and she gave up on her own dreams to raise her two sisters after their parents died in a car crash. And there werent a lot of men who wanted to date a woman who worked twelve-hour days, seven days a week while raising her sisters. But shed dated a bit. Shed even thought shed found the right guy once, but he didnt see why she didnt put the girls in boarding school and move to Seattle to live with him.
