Introduction
Using This Book
This book has been written to provide relevant information in a condensed and straightforward manner, through simple paragraphs, tables and diagrams. It attempts to cover the breadth of the present syllabus as notified by the four colleges, and provides the depth of information necessary to attempt the examination. The book is intended to reflect the requirements of the examining boards as closely as possible and will be updated to mirror future changes as and when they arise.
The Examination
The examination format has undergone radical change for the MRCS. At present there is a multiple-choice written answer paper, followed by the clinical examination, if sufficient marks have been obtained in the written examination. The change from a written short answer/long answer paper to an MCQ has advantages and disadvantages. While there is no longer the need to formulate a written response, a simple true/false answer must now be given, instead of a discussion of a number of options which was the case previously.
This book will provide the spectrum of questions that may be asked in the exam.
