Editing and publishing books is a strange trade. You find a manuscript and say, "The world needs this." You put the effort into getting it edited, designed, proofread, printed, distributed, publicizedand often enough the book makes no stir in the world at all. Often you don't even recoup your costs, and often enough the author considers the fault for the book's nonperformance to rest with the publisher.... You wonder, sometimes, what's the use?

But then there are those miraculous others, the books that do just what you had hoped, the books that meet response and change people's lives for the better, the books that live. I will never forget the query letter I once received saying that the author had decided that he wanted Hampton Roads to be his publisher after buying a secondhand copy of Astral Dynamics in Kathmandu, and carrying it with him all around Asia.

A good while after we published Astral Dynamics, I finally got to meet Robert Bruce, years after we had become virtual friends. The creation of this tenth anniversary edition of Astral Dynamics has been a true labor of love. In the years since 1999, my continuing exploration of life and out-of-body experience (OBE) has significantly improved my understanding of the greater reality.

The idea for the tenth anniversary edition came from my editor, Frank DeMarco, between shrimp and salad, as we dined at a quaint little restaurant in Virginia Beach in early 2009. The idea stuck and soon became official.

This new edition bears little resemblance to the original. It is more concise, making room for much new content. The energy work and training sections have been completely replaced. New ideas, methods, and OBE experiences are included. The illustrations and artwork have been redone.

Of particular importance, new ideas and ways of working with your higher self are included. These utilize the manifestation process for the development and practice of OBE. Your higher self holds all the keys relating to OBE and psychic abilities. It is wise to work with this dynamic force, rather than against it. Aligning with your higher self solves many OBE-related problems and greatly improves results. This also eases many of the natural fears associated with OBE.
