May 25, 2008 Future superstar Clayton Kershaw makes his major-league debut at age twenty against the St. Louis Cardinals in Dodger Stadium. Kershaw goes six innings, strikes out seven, walks one, and allows two earned runs. He gets a no-decision in a 43 L.A. win in ten innings.

July 28, 2008 The Dodgers acquire Casey Blake from Cleveland.

July 31, 2008 The Dodgers acquire Manny Ramirez at trade deadline.

August 19, 2008 The Dodgers acquire Greg Maddux from the San Diego Padres for a second time, the only two times in Madduxs career he was traded.

September 15, 2008 Brad Penny makes his final appearance for the Dodgers, giving up two runs on two hits in one inning of relief against the Pirates. Two days later, he is in the clubhouse showing a rookie pitcher how to shoot a hunting bow and arrow when Joe Torre is looking to put the rookie in the game. When the team comes off the road, Penny refuses to meet with team officials and is sent home. The media doesnt find out for nearly a month.

September 26, 2008 The Dodgers clinch NL West.

October 4, 2008 Hiroki Kuroda gets the win and Jonathan Broxton the save as the Dodgers complete a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs in the NLDS.

October 15, 2008 Chad Billingsley gets the loss as the Philadelphia Phillies eliminate the Dodgers four games to one in the National League Championship Series (NLCS). Greg Maddux pitches two innings in relief of Billingsley, striking out three, walking one, and allowing two unearned runs. It is the last appearance of his Hall of Fame career.

December 9, 2008 Re-signs shortstop Rafael Furcal to a three-year contract with a vesting option for 2012.

January 15, 2009 Releases Andruw Jones.

January 20, 2009 Signs closer Jonathan Broxton and catcher Russell Martin to one-year contracts, avoiding arbitration.
