Jilly Shipway is a qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher with more than twenty-five years of teaching experience. Over her long teaching career she has enthused hundreds of students with her love of yoga, and many of them have continued to study with her for many years and up to the present day. She has tutored foundation level, prediploma yoga study courses for the British Wheel of Yoga. She was very fortunate to have discovered yoga in her early teens and so has had a lifetime of studying and practicing yoga. Mindfulness is an integral part of her own yoga practice and her teaching.
As well as teaching general yoga classes, she also has many years of experience teaching specialist yoga classes to adults recovering from mental health problems. She trained at Kings College London as a motivational interviewing coach, coaching people caring for someone with an eating disorder, and worked under the supervision of Professor Janet Treasure and her team.
For over ten years Jilly has been developing a seasonal approach to yoga. In tandem with this she has been trying to solve the mystery of womens involvement in the history of yoga. Her Seasonal Yoga courses and website have inspired thousands of yoga practitioners to integrate a seasonal awareness into their yoga practice. She has a BA (Hons) degree in fine art and believes passionately that yoga and mindfulness can really enhance creativity.
Jilly is a regular contributor to the international publication Yoga Magazine. When Jilly is not teaching, writing about, or doing yoga, she loves walking in towns, cities, and the wilds of nature. She lives in the UK in a small Welsh border town, surrounded by hills. She is married and has one grown-up daughter.

Acknowledgments
Thank you to the earth, the moon, and the sun for giving us the rhythms and the seasons of our lives. You are at the heart of this Seasonal Yoga book.
Thank you to yoga for picking me up when I was a confused, hapless, and ever-hopeful teenager. Thank you for your beauty and diversity and for all the interesting places that you have taken me. Thank you for helping me realize that peace is more than a possibility.
To Glennie Kindred and Ruth Barrett, thank you for all the work that you have both done on the Wheel of the Year, which has given me such a deep well to draw upon.
To Judith Lasater and Donna Farhi, thank you for showing me how to bring my life into yoga and yoga into my life.
Thank you to all the amazing yoga writers, teachers, and practitioners who have helped me expand my definition of what yoga is and what it could be.
I am extremely grateful to Angela Wix, Acquisitions Editor at Llewellyn Publications. I consider Angela to be the midwife to this book! Angela and her team have really helped me pull this book into shape, and I really appreciate all the guidance, help, and support that I have been given by them. Especial thanks to Lauryn Heineman, Lynne Menturweck, Shannon McKuhen, Kat Sanborn, Anna Levine, and Molly McGinnis.
Thank you to all the thousands of peoples who have visited my Seasonal Yoga website, especially those who have contacted me to share their enthusiasm for a seasonal approach to yoga.
I feel very fortunate through my teaching to be able to share my love of yoga, and so a huge thank you to all my students, some of whom have been with me on the path over many years and have taught me so much. Thank you also to local yoga teachers and friends for their friendship and support.
I am very grateful to my group of six readers, who read through my early attempts at chapters for this book and gave me such astute feedback. I really value the expertise, friendship, and support that you have given me, on what at times has been a rocky road. So, thank you to Judy Brenan, Claire Holmes, Lottie Hosie, Linda Poole, Alison Jones, and Ulrike Schade.
Thank you to Rosie Bernard, my niece, for her writerly support and enthusiasm.
