Hand sanitizer, also known with the name of hand antiseptic and hand rub, applied and rubbed on the hands has the purpose of removing common pathogens (which are disease-causing organisms). Hand sanitizers typically come in different types, such as foam, gel, or liquid.
We all know that the best way to eliminate germs in most circumstances is by washing hands with soap and water. On the other hand, if you are not able to use soap and water for cleaning your hands, you will need to apply an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, that contains at least 60% alcohol to be effective, or also a witch hazel water based hand sanitizer. You can check the percentage of alcohol contained in the product by checking the label.

First of all, you need to apply the gel product to the palm of one hand (check the label to find out the correct amount). Then rub your hands one with the other. Try to rub the gel, thoroughly, all over your hands and fingers till they are perfectly dry. This should take around 20 seconds.
Despite the fact that the effectiveness of hand sanitizer can vary, it is employed in order to control the infections in a wide variety of settings, from schools and hospitals, to day-care centers and health care clinics and from stores to cruise ships.
There are two different kinds of hand sanitizer, depending on the active ingredient used to make them: alcohol-based or alcohol-free. How do you know if a hand sanitizer is really effective? To answer at this question, you need to take in count different factors, including the manner in which the product is applied (e.g., frequency of use, duration of exposure, the quantity used) and also if the specific infectious agents present on the persons hands are sensitive to the active ingredient in the product. Overall, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, if massaged thoroughly over fingers and hand surfaces for at least 30 seconds, and let them complete air-drying, can surely decrease the number of bacteria, fungi, and some enveloped viruses.
