Writing is an adventure
Two months of 20-hour-a-week bibliographical research, note taking, contextual drawings, and other detailed plans are necessary before any writing occurs. A book then requires 6 months of writingif you are accustomed to writingor about 30 hours a week. That is only the beginning; then you have to create drawings, take photos, sort and code the photos, design the layout, and reread the book (again and again).
For this book, more so than for any other, I pushed my team to its limits. A single illustration requires about 20 hours of Stphane Ganneaus time. The book contains 142 illustrations. You can imagine the total time the illustrations required.
Each photo takes about five minutes to edit. The photographer, Johann Vayriot, spent four days and three nights shooting the photos. Of the 6,378 photos that were taken, 1,216 were ultimately used. The modelsAri Elmaleh, Dounia Coesens, Laetitia Fourcade, and Philippe Baswere especially patient. Simply sorting and coding these images took a complete week of full-time work.
We also wanted to have innovative pedagogical plans, which amounted to about two full days of work for everyone in the group that we formed with Stef Ganneau.
Everything in the book must be harmonious; we created a mock-up with photos and illustrations, all while maintaining the precise instructions that I aimed to provide in this book. The great model artist Nicolas Moreau spent close to 120 hours over many months making this a reality. We spent weeks going back and forth as we decided how to flesh out the anatomy and the technique, as well as on my design ideas.
Finally, you must hunt down all the typos, which could be hiding anywhere: in the text, in the mock-up, or in the images. Olivier Remy and his team at Sen No Sen had a lot of work to do with this gigantic book.
I wish to thank each of these people from the bottom of my heart. It is our book for everyone, and I believe that, together, we have created something exceptional.

THIS IS NOT A BOOK FOR SELF-DIAGNOSIS
The goal of this book is not to replace doctors, physical therapists, massage therapists, or any other type of health care professional. Instead, it will explain and demonstrate how to detect and resolve fundamental problems that may be caused by a sport you play regularly, a lack of physical activity, or even the effects of your daily life. Pain that persists or that is sharp, consistently failing at certain exercises, or the inability to succeed during a physical test should prompt you to consult this book as fast as possible. Our hope is that, if you take care of your body as we advise you to do in this book, your medical needs will decrease over time. But visiting a general physician or an alternative medicine practitioner at least once a year is, in our opinion, an integral part of the method provided in this book. Taking care of your body also means trusting the professionals.

Pain
Pain is not inevitable. In fact, our aim is that after reading this book, your motto might even gradually become this: The day you no longer hurt anywhere is the day that youre alive.
Part I
Breathing
On average, we breathe 20,000 times per day. Therefore, this vital element must be taken very seriously; you must train yourself to breathe.
