CONTENTS
PREFACE
This is the fifth issue in the series and covers the years 1967 and 1968. The editorial policy, with minor changes outlined below, follows that of the volume for 1966.
SCOPE
Books and pamphlets have been considered as published in the United Kingdom when their publishers are listed in Whitakers Publishers in the United Kingdom and their addresses, February 1971. This includes many foreign publishers, mainly American, who have branches in the United Kingdom and whose publications are listed in the British National Bibliography. Books published abroad and distributed by British publishers are not included, although often listed in BNB.
Reprints of old books and new impressions of out of print books have again been included, but the extensive list of reprints of British government papers by the Irish University Press, listed in BNB, have been excluded. As well as the publications of the United Nations and its agencies, those of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development have also been excluded.
ARRANGEMENT
In addition to Africa in general, countries and regions with more than one hundred entries have been subdivided by subject.
The references to Hansard have been compiled by Mr. Malcolm McKee of the Library of the School of Oriental and African Studies.
I am once again grateful to Mr. G. R. Paterson. editor of the Aslib Index to theses accepted for higher degrees in the universities of Great Britain and Ireland, for facilities to extract relevant entries from his cards before publication. The guidance of Mr. Donald H. Simpson. Librarian, Royal Commonwealth Society, on the subject content of reprints of older works has been invaluable.
Corrections, suggestions and additions will be greatly appreciated.
