Brian Vale
Charlotte Bretherton is Senior Lecturer in International Relations/ European Studies at Liverpool john Moores University. Her research interests are currently focused on the external policy of the European Union, broadly conceived. She also has an interest in the gender dimensions of global environmental politics. Recent publications include Gender mainstreaming and EU enlargement: swimming against the tide, Journal of European Public Policy 8(1) (2001) and Movements, networks and hierarchies: a gender perspective on global environmental governance, Global Environmental Politics 3 (2) (2003).
John Carter works at the University of Teesside. He has research interests in social theory, anarchism and the new social movements.
Andrew Cottey is a Lecturer in the Department of Government, University College Cork. His major area of interest is NATO and the evolution of its role following the end of the Soviet Union.
Mark Cowling is Reader in Criminology at the University of Teesside. His previous publications include: Approaches to Marx (edited with Lawrence Wilde), Open University Press, Milton Keynes, 1989; The Communist Manifesto: New Interpretations (edited), Edinburgh University Press, Edinburgh, 1998; Date Rape and Consent, Ashgate, Aldershot, 1998; Marxism, the Millennium and Beyond (edited, with Paul Reynolds), Macmillan, 2000; and Marxs Eighteenth Brumaire: (Post) Modern Interpretations (edited, with James Martin), Pluto Press, 2002.
Professor Howard Elcock was educated at The Queens College, Oxford. He has taught at the Universities of Hull and Northumbria, UK and at Fredonia State College, USA. He has lectured at many other universities and colleges in Europe, Asia and North America. He has numerous publications on local and regional government, public administration and policy analysis. He is at present engaged in a study of local councillors and elected mayors in Northern England.
iJohn Gibbins is a Principal Lecturer in Research Management in the School of Social Sciences and Law at the University of Teesside, and a member of Wolfson College Cambridge. He recently published The Politics of Postmodernity, a book on value change and political futures with Bo Reimer. He has written extensively in the fields of political and social theory, but is currently working in the fields of criminology, social epistemology and the history of university curriculum, focused at Cambridge University.
Julian Gough is a Principal Lecturer in Economics at the University of Teesside specialising in business economics. Julian was formerly Senior Economic Analyst at British Gas pic 1984-95, and prior to that a lecturer in economics at Cardiff Business School. His main research interests are in business economics, economics of financial institutions, regional economics, and European integration.
Stephen James is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Teesside. He has published on UK macroeconomic policy, labour market policy, financial markets and the Single European Market and Single Currency. Current research interests include the relationship between banking, financial markets and the development of the iron and steel industry in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Dave Morland works in the Sociology section at the University of Teesside. He has published widely on anarchism and is developing research interests in technology and the sociology of football.
Andrew Shepherd is studying toward a PhD in the School of Social Sciences and Law at the University of Teesside. Andrews research examines contemporary views and experiences of New Labours communitarian welfare paradigm and its civic society objective in the Teesside area.
Brian Vale is a post-graduate student at the University of Teesside.
