INTRODUCTION TO MULTICULTURAL SKIN
Multicultural skin is the largest growing sector of cosmetic procedures. It is estimated that people of color account for 30% of all U.S. cosmetic skin procedures. The demand for this segment is expected to soar in the next decade. Currently, 1-in-3 clients of color are demanding cosmetic treatments for hyperpigmentation, signs of aging, and skin laxity. If you fail to realize this growing phenomenon of racial diversity here in America, you will not have a good grasp on reality. The truth is, the face of esthetics and the skincare industry is changing daily; so are the needs of its clients.
By the year 2050, more than half the population of the United States will be a blend of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and Native Americans. Therefore, it is important to consider the differences in multicultural skin and learn how to properly care for it, especially while incorporating chemical peels and laser treatments. If you feel, that as a skincare professional, you dont need to learn treatments specific to people of color or make people of color part of your target market, you will miss the opportunity to build your business with this ever-increasing population. If you feel as though you can sustain your business without taking special care to learn the appropriate ways to treat multicultural skin, you are doing yourself and your business a disservice. You must prepare for this prospect and learn to recognize what is appropriate and inappropriate concerning skincare treatments, ingredients, and products for people of color. Multicultural skin is the future of your skincare clientele.
What you stand to gain in the pages of Multicultural Skin Treatments: Learn How to Effectively Treat Skin of Color by Combining Chemical Peels and Laser Treatments is highly specialized information and protocols that cover the most common skin conditions you will treat in clients of color. This book will take the guesswork out of helping you treat multicultural skin. You will discover an innovative inside-out approach you can incorporate into your current treatment plans. You will learn the importance of a detailed consultation along with a sample consultation questionnaire to aid you in digging beyond surface questions to really get to the root of your clients skin issues. Also included, are sample protocols to guide you step-by-step through chemical peel and laser treatments with recommended pre and post skincare regimens for your novice, experienced, and seasoned multicultural skin clientele.
I am so pleased that you have invested in yourself enough to consider how important it is to take the necessary precautions in treating multicultural skin while trying to achieve optimum results without the possibility of contraindications. The tools and strategies in this book will help you to develop an approach and treatment plan that makes your clients feel more comfortable and confident in you. Gaining your clients trust will grow your business through client loyalty and client retention, all while increasing your bottom line.
Enjoy!
I have amassed over two decades worth of experience in treating skin from every ethnic group, and one thing has become abundantly clear: there is indeed a difference between multicultural skin and Caucasian skin.
Cosmetically speaking, multicultural skin types have many differences in the color of their skin. For example, black skin has a wide range of color variations. This groups colors can vary from creamy light coffee to deep ebony black. Asian skin exhibits colors that range from a light-yellow hue to a dark golden tan. Native American skin colors vary with respect to different tribes and have coloring that ranges from light to dark red-brown. Even white skin, at times, is misinterpreted visually and placed in inaccurate categories. Caucasian skin ranges greatly from milky alabaster white to dark olive skin tones.
