A Short View of the State of Ireland [By Jonathan Swift] (Dublin: S. Harding, 17278).
A Short View was written at the end of 1727. It was published anonymously early the following year, but its author was Jonathan Swift, the Dean of St Patricks Dublin. Had there been any doubt about its authorship, the reference to Lord Chief Justice Whitshed, an old judicial foe of Swifts, would have speedily dispelled it. The pamphlet was reprinted in the Intelligencer, a weekly paper edited by Swift and Thomas Sheridan probably in November 1728, where it was attributed to the Drapier, the pseudonym of Swift.
