Preface

When I began my first student clinical experience, I felt overwhelmed. There just wasnt time to memorize lab values, metric conversions, or the dozens of other facts I needed to know. So I compiled a small notebook of this information and carried it with me everywhere. Later, as a graduate student pursuing my masters degree, I taught nursing students who were experiencing the same problem.

For them, and for you, I have compiled those hard-to-memorize charts, graphs, numbers, and abbreviations that you must know, even in your first clinical experience. Ive added some handy checklists for physical assessment and an assortment of other useful bits of information.

Clinical Companion for Fundamentals of Nursing: Just the Facts, Eighth edition, is designed to be a portable, quick reference for facts and figures, focusing on adult health care. I hope you will find this as handy a resource during your clinical work as I did.
