The American Paint Horse Animals Pets: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "The American Paint Horse Animals Pets" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

This book is the first comprehensive history of an admirable American breed of horse that has at last come into its own. It is a ready reference for the breeder and a broadly based account for the historian of the equine species. The author searches out the past, describing the origin of painted horses in ancient times, their movement across Europe, their arrival in the Americas, and their acceptance in the 1960s as a distinctive breed.Accompanying his text with many illustrations, the author discusses breed characteristics, bloodlines, and color patterns. He emphasizes the genetic principles involved in breeding authentic Paints. Included are descriptions and charts of markings of the tobiano, the overo, the criulo, the criollo, and-that fascinating occurrence-the Paint cropout.

PREFACE
I am particularly glad to take this opportunity of introducing the American Paint Horse to the horse lovers of America. Over the past decade a few articles have appeared on this breed in various equine magazines, but this is the first volume to be compiled about these colorful horses, which contributed their part to our American heritage.
Many people do not realize where these horses actually came from or understand the true identity of the Paint Horse. It is this background of history and breed development, as well as the story of individual horses, both past and present, that I have attempted to tell in this book. Additionally, I have tried to provide a certain amount of information on breed characteristics, color patterns, bloodlines, and breeding principles with the special view in mind that it should be useful to the many breeders and owners of Paint Horses. It is my hope that this book will create a better understanding of this admirable horse and familiarize more individuals with the breed.
I would like to acknowledge here my debt to many owners,

breeders, trainers, and exhibitors with whom I have corresponded and discussed Paint Horses in compiling this book. Their wholehearted cooperation and assistance in answering questions, supplying material, and finding pictures is deeply appreciated.
A particular debt of gratitude is owed to Robert M. Denhardt and Joe M. Huffington for their contribution of historical information, which was most helpful in the preparation of the text.
Also I would like to thank Marge Spence for the loan of many outstanding photographs taken by herself of Paint Horses, included in the book.
Most of all I want to thank Sam Ed Spence, first Executive Secretary of the American Paint Horse Association and Managing Editor of the Paint Horse Journal, for the many kindnesses shown along the way. He and his staff patiently and understandingly allowed me access to the association files for information concerning rules, regulations, activities, statistics, and show records.
My sincere thanks to you all.
