Materials
Pencil with Sharpener/ Mechanical Pencilwith Leads /Lead Holder Pencil with Sharpener and Leads
HB Pencil with Sharpener (A.), MechanicalPencil for thin outlines (B.), Lead Holder Pencil (C.), this is forthin and thick lines, and is the same as an ordinary pencil. Theonly difference is the ease when the lead becomes dull, as you justpush the end button and sharpen the point; you can also use it witha longer lead (just push the end button many times).
There are various grades of pencil that youmay consider for adding tones to your drawing: 4H, 2H, F, HB, 2B,and 6B, but if youre short of supplies, you can use HB only. Youwill just apply pressure when you want a darker tone and lightpressure for light tone.
Charcoal
A. Charcoal pencils- Come in different rangesfrom Hard, Medium, and Soft, and they are good for giving detailsin any charcoal work.
B. Vine Charcoal- They also come in differentranges and also sizes. You can apply it directly or shave it withyour cutter and use the accumulated dust on your working paper.
C. Compress Charcoals- This is the same asother charcoal, but with different range and in shapes. They areavailable in bar or cylindrical shape, and they have a darker toneand can easily adhere to any drawing paper.
D. Powder Charcoal-They come in cans orplastic bottles, are very fine and useful for any charcoal work,especially for toning. They can also be used for transferring yourdrawing or outlines to working paper.
Fine Point Marker/Permanent Fine PointPen
Use these to add dark details in your work,and also to fill some dark tight areas.
Soft and Abrasive Rubber Eraser/ PencilEraser/ Refillable Retractable Eraser/Kneaded Eraser/ElectricEraser
Soft and Abrasive Rubber Eraser- Use thisto erase minor mistakes and to lighten colors in painted areas, aswell as large areas.
Electric Eraser- This eraser is batteryoperated and comes with soft and abrasive eraser refills. This is amust have for airbrush users, as it can create various effects thatan ordinary eraser cant.
Heavy Duty Abrasive Eraser- Use this toerase tough areas, but be very careful when youre going to usethis, as it can ruin your working paper or board.
Kneaded Eraser- Its like clay that is usedto erase dark outlines and also to lighten some areas. It isespecially used for highlights and other effects.
Refillable Retractable Eraser- This is thesame as a rubber eraser, it is soft and can erase easily, and thereis a clicker on the side to retract the eraser when not in use.
Pencil Eraser- It looks like a pencil, butwith eraser incased instead of pencil lead. It can also besharpened which is good for hard to erase mistakes and for tightarea corrections. An abrasive type of Pencil eraser is what youneed for illustration works.
Tortillon / Make-up Applicator/ CottonSwabs
Tortillon - Used to blend your drawing,smear one tone to another (this is the only time you are allowed tosmear your work) and for making even tones, especially in facialareas. You can use fine sand paper to polish the pointer, when itsruin.
Make-up Applicator - Used for blending, andcan reach area that need blending, especially tight areas.
Cotton Swabs - Good for blending areas thatneed to be soften.
Airbrush
Its a tool, just like a pen, with a triggeron the Top-middle used to spray paint color, aided by an airsupply. There are many Airbrushes in the market, each with theirown manufacturer technicality and their own airbrush design. Whenyou buy an Airbrush, the parts and diagram are printed in themanual so that you will know each of the parts, and also for when apart is broken or worn down, so you can order a replacement fromthe manufacturer.
