Praise for the series:
Sounds like as close to a dream team as one could get without having to resort to spiritual means. I mean if you could get Ansel Adams to do a section on black and white and landscapegreat, but that would require a sance. For the talent living, this is a dream team.
Robert Barnett, QBToo (formerly PC-Review Online)
We loved our old Time/Life series of photography books. Time for an update. This series could become iconic.
Anne Pfeiffer, Instructor
I think that Katrin Eismanns skill in curriculum development is reflected in the approach. I like the approach a lot; I would find it to be a valuable resource and would expect to turn to the texts often for advice.
Mark Lewis, SUNY Empire State College
I think there is a good balance of technical vs. creative.
Carol Tipping, FRPS EFIAP
I think many of the books on the market are software driven, whereas this series is developed to support the photography industry. There is a world of difference between explaining a feature of a software package and explaining how to get an important photography task accomplished through a software tool.
Douglas Barkey, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh

Photography is the easiest thing to make, and one of the hardest things to make well.
Jerry Saltz
Knowing how each Photoshop slider or camera setting works does not create compelling images. On a similar note, having great ideas without mastering the skills to realize them will also produce unsatisfying results. To produce outstanding images, you must be dedicated to craft, vision and creativity. Being an artist is simultaneously exhilarating, challenging, frightening, pleasurable, difficultand rewarding.
With this book, you are privy to the real-world knowledge of many talented, creative and smart photographers. I had the privilege of meeting Andy Batt, Candace Dobro and Jodie Steen in outstanding educational environments. Andy and I graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in the early 1990s, just as digital technology was starting to impact photography. Back then, Andy was the one wearing Chucks before they were totally cool. He lived in the studios and darkrooms as he experimented with techniques to uniquely express his vision. Now, a quarter of a century later, Andys footwear may have changed, but one thing remains the same: He is obsessively dedicated to researching the latest technology, experimenting in the studio and delving into exhibits, music and movies that inspire him.
Andy takes being up to date very seriously, and when he taught in the School of Visual Arts Masters in Digital Photography program, he insisted that his students learn the technical aspects of photographyand, more importantly, that they create compelling images. For Andy, a seemingly banal technical exercise such as an exposure bracket or a color temperature test is an ideal opportunity to make strong photographs. Hes a true believer that with every image you make today, youre learning to make better images for tomorrow.
I met Candace when she was a student in the inaugural year of the online version of the SVA Masters in Digital Photography program. It required tenacity and focus to negotiate the uncharted territory of a new online program, and Candace approached the endeavor with an open mind and generous smile, always bringing solutions and suggestions to improve the quality of the classes for everyone involved. She is an experienced editor who knows how to maintain each writers voice, and is patient, tenacious and detail-orientedthus making her an ideal partner to guide and harness Andys intensive focus and busy professional schedule.
