However... Im typically a very creative person, so it wasnt long before I started mapping out what my next project would be. I was working on my sequel to The Rise of Sherlock Holmes (which will be out later in 2022) but I felt like I needed to do something that wasnt fiction and represented me and my other passion; photography.
This book is my most personal book yet. I had been negotiating a deal with people that wanted me to sign a contract to write for them, but I wasnt feeling it and to be honest, I have grown so accustomed to writing my independent books. I like working for myself, so I politely refused to sign the deal and got to work on this book instead. This book isnt like anything Ive done previously though. It is a book of my photography and photographic related artwork, and for that reason it is very dear to me. Photography is a delicate, passionate medium in which one can literally shoot a moment that tells a story, capturing a feeling or emotion and freezing it in time.
For many years people have used photography to capture those special memories; precious moments in time that we dont want to forget. Every picture tells a story, and I do love telling stories. I have used this book as a library for just some of my favorite shots that I have taken in locations around Melbourne, Australia and published over time on various social media platforms; which have been admired and adored by many and now you can enjoy them too. What follows is a collection of photographs from the following styles;
- Black and white
- Colour
- Food photography
- Digital art
- Experimental
And..
Its photography that I have come to be proud of and I feel they capture my moods, interests and adventures beautifully. - Dan Monty, 2021 PART ONE BLACK AND WHITE
SEAGULL SUSHI THIEF It came from above, it showed no fear It watched me as it flew over so near The winged beast tried to seduce me, All so it could steal my sushi! It had its way, flew in to steal, It cared not how it made me feel It took my meal and flew away, A photo is all thats left today.
POST LOCKDOWN WALK After months of being locked down I took a walk in a beachside town The view was great, the air so sweet I captured the moment while on my feet
CHASING WATERFALLS A magical place, not far from the city With beautiful gardens and views so pretty And deep within, a secret place Where waterfalls take ones breath away
WHEEL OF AMUSEMENT See the people having fun? The wheel spins in the summer sun Eating hotdogs, playing games How long we waited for such a day
A BIG DAY AT THE BEACH The sun is shining in the sky The temperature is hot The view is perfect in my eye So I line up for the shot So many people on the beach Its wonderful to see The roaring seas and salty air It feel great to be free
I SPY A LITTLE BUTTERFLY He clings onto the leaf so tight As I walk through the trees Surrounded by plants and nature And working, buzzing bees
LOOKING UPWARD And looking upward, there is a sight, The glorious building bathed in light The architecture blows my mind I imagine what awaits inside
HAUNTING A convent once, now a place of art The building has such mystery But oh, what if these walls could talk? Would it share its wicked history?
BRIDE AND GROOM OF DOOM I ventured to a convenience store Upon one Halloween Outside I saw some newly-weds That might have made you scream! The twisted Clerks had run amok, To frighten customers I felt uneasy in the store After seeing he and her
THE CITY I CALL HOME When first I came to Melbourne How I truly felt alone But then the city grew on me And now I call it home
THE SEA WELCOMES ME Her roaring waves and salty air The clear blue sky surrounds me The ocean has always drawn me near It continues to inspire me
MACABRE WINDOW MADNESS Oh heavens! What horror! A corpse is in there! Surely its faux though, do not be scared! One Halloween, I found him in the street Sitting up in a window as I tried to eat What manner of madness must he have been through? He was outside a restaurant with other things too I did not stay for long, for it creeped me right out I snapped this as proof as I let out a shout
THE WIND BLEW THEM DOWN As I walked by the side of the beach, I noticed the bins laying down by the sea Like Dominos the things all toppled and fell Im sure if they could those poor bins would yell
CRAZY CLOWNS They grin with a monsterous wide open grin Begging you to drop ping pong balls within As a child Id cry, unable to play My pa said Youre silly", hed force me to stay In time I would learn I was being a fairy For clowns are simply just not that scary
