Born in Budapest in 1923, he worked for three decades in the Hungarian National Library. The main focus of his research has been the establishment of a Hungarian national bibliography for the period prior to 1801. The section on the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries appeared in Budapest in 1971: Rgi Magyarorszgi Nyomtatvnyok 14731600 = Res litteraria Hungariae vetus operum impressorum 14731600. In his studies on the history of the book, he concentrates primarily on the history of printing, the focus of many of his articles. He is Senior Research Fellow of the National Szchnyi Library of Hungary in Budapest. His research has not, however, focused on Hungary alone, as he published a valuable Clavis typographorum librariorumque Italiae 14651600 (2 vols, Baden Baden, 1980).
