Foreword
Light of the Fireflies is a culmination of months of collaborative effort from the team at Amelio, Pravin Shekhar of Krea and the team at Notion Press. Like most large projects, the idea of having children write a story and of handing over a published book within a couple of days started as whimsy. A curious and audacious thought, but one that took shape, and emerged in the form of the book you see today. Each of us in the team gave it more life, more magnificent color and gave it shape through minute executional detail.
The real heroes in these stories are, of course, the young authors, who unleashed their imagination and creative writing skills within a near-impossibly short span of time. Children from across the city drew inspiration from their friends, learned about the structure of a good plot, and took the effort to write their stories in great detail. It was inspiring to see, and their energy motivates us to bring more such opportunities to these bright children raring to go.
It has been a pleasure working with the team at the Hindu Lit for Life in making this book come into being. Special thanks to the workshop squad at Amelio for their efforts in piecing all the parts together. We owe our thanks to the entire team at Notion Press for their ideas and seamless execution. Most importantly, my special thanks to Pravin for his thought, energy and ideas without which this idea would continue to live just in our heads!
Happy reading, and heres to the next generation of writers!

Preface
Imagination has no boundaries, creativity no borders! All it takes is the right setting, a framework and a few pointers to get the ball rolling.
This was proven right at The Hindu Lit for Life creative writing workshop 2018, organized and coordinated by Amelio. More than thirty storytellers emerged, covering genres such as fantasy, horror, mystery and thrillers.
This workshop inspired young minds to dream and capture their journey in words, to tell a storylong or short. Light of the Fireflies is a collection of such stories.
What is required
today
is to let a child play.
Free
from encumbrances
of formulae, rules and limits.
Imagination,
ignites passion
spurs creativity.
Our thoughts
create new worlds
and such thinking shapes our future.
Makes us want more
from life
from ourselves!
All of us still have a child within; waiting to be let loose into a world without borders!
A quote attributed to Albert Einstein rings true. Imagination is everything; it is the preview of lifes coming attractions.

One summer morning, Mia woke up and looked outside and saw that it was raining. She opened her window and put her hand out to feel the rain and discovered that it was not water that was falling from the sky, but drops of milk.
She was amused by the sight, which looked like snow on the streets of the Netherlands. Thinking of the Netherlands, she was reminded of her fight with her family the previous night. She and her brothers had wanted to go to the Netherlands for their summer vacation, but their parents had refused.
Mia had three older brothers. Her eldest brother was Surya, the second was Aro, and the third was Nihu. She was happy imagining herself in the Netherlands. She wanted herself and her brothers to be in a different world.
She rushed down the hallway to tell her mom what she had seen that morning. But when she went downstairs, her mother was not there, and neither was her dad. So she went to tell her brothers about her missing parents.
She knocked on her brothers door. Her second brother, Aro, opened the door and asked her why she was waking him up so early. Mia told Aro what had happened. Aro let Mia inside the room. Her three brothers shared a big bedroom that was painted in blue.
The others woke up and were shocked to hear what Mia had to say. They decided to go out and look for their parents. All four of them quickly got dressed and set out to look for their parents, when they realized they were not in their world at all.
They saw a mirror of their city, but they realized there were no people in the entire place except for the four of them. They didnt know how to get back into their own world. Surya suggested that perhaps the church might be a right place to start, so all of them went to the church.
When they stepped into the church, they saw that it was empty. Suddenly they heard a voice saying, Come, dear children. What brings four young teens to the church at this time of the day?
Aro answered nervously, We dont know where we are and we dont know how to get back to our world!
The invisible pastor said, Sit, dear children. Let me tell you about Planet Love.
The four siblings whispered to each other, Planet Love?
The pastor spoke again, You are on Planet Love, and this is a world of dreams. The only way you can get back to your world is when you go past the Milk Lake, cross the Cookie Bridge and finally go through the Forest of Magic. Youll find a small door there.
The four children thanked him and left.
