Foreword
Brilliant ideas and solutions in any field often possess a blinding simplicity. Engineering and science are no exception, with their constant endeavors to arrive at simple solutions from complex, unwieldy constructsfor example, replacing complicated multistage syntheses with single-stage direct syntheses in the production of acrylic fiber. In economics, too, it was no coincidence that the simple exchange mechanism of money took the place of laborious bartering. And as a final example, pension insurance could perhaps be interpreted as a simplification of the principle of philoprogenitiveness as a means of providing for old age.
