About the Author

Rob Shimonski is a technology executive specializing in healthcare IT for one of the largest health systems in America. In his role at Northwell Health, Rob is a decision maker and strategy planner for information systems operations and technology services. In his current role Rob is responsible for bringing operational support into the future with the help of new technologies such as cloud and artificial intelligence. His current focus is on AIOps. He's written dozens of books on many IT topics such as penetration testing, incident handling, cyberwarfare, and the deployment of advanced network and security tools and technologies.

With the onset of too much data to handle, it's obvious that something needs to be done to bridge the gap between healthcare operations and leveraging the data to improve patient experience and clinical support. With AI and operations (AIOps), this can be done through the connection of real-time event correlation and automation of responses to help restore critical IT functions. Other benefits can be found in customer (patient, clinician) experience outcomes. Rob works to lead this transformation from the forefront of bridging the business with the technology assets needed to create a technical health road map of new opportunities.

Rob works to connect business goals, build on customer/patient/clinician experience, and help strategize (and deploy) operational delivery systems to create a cycle of continuous improvement, with the potential to invent new markets within pre-existing healthcare technology architecture.

Rob's experience has been extremely diverse but always focused on innovation and developing new solutions to create efficiency and bringing forth better outcomes through the use of technology solutions. Rob can be found online at www.shimonski.com.

About the Technical Editor

Ted Coombs is a polymath futurist, technologist, and author of 24 technology books. His career in tech started in the 1970s as a laser engineer and roboticist. He began working in AI in 1983 for the Cleveland Clinic. He is one of the founders of modern computer forensics and today is also known for his knowledge of AIOps and DataOps. He is also an accomplished musician and fine artist.

Acknowledgments

I would like to personally thank all of my colleagues, leaders, and teams at Northwell Health. The teams I lead and am a part of are some of the best in the industry, and without them, we would never be able to accept and complete the challenges we confront day by day. From deploying new technologies to supporting the operation to bringing innovation to the forefrontit truly is one big team that makes it all happen. Although the list could be infinite, I would like to thank the leaders I report to for their amazing guidance. Most importantly, Michael J. Dowling, chief executive officer of Northwell Health, for his leadership not only during the pandemic but for all the time I have worked for Northwell Health. His ability to be innovative and tackle operational issues head on and lead from the front is what is most inspiring of any leader, especially of a CEO. I would also like to thank my leadersCIO John Bosco, CTO Dr. Purna Prasad, AVPs Mike Tralli, Pat Clark, and Vince Pawlowski, and my managers Bob Setti, Gail McGarry, Eric Lindner, and Peter Cheungfor being amazing at what they do every day. This list is not exhaustive, but for the sake of brevity, I would like to offer an extended thank-you to the many great people I have worked with and have had the honor to lead in this organization. I can't thank all of you enough.
