During my days as an investment banker, the most enjoyable clients to work with were, by far, the early-stage companies going through initial public offerings.
Equity crowdfunding has many strong parallels with early-stage initial public offerings, so when I saw the emergence of this exciting new financing innovation, it was the perfect fit for my interests and skill set.
This book grew out of a desire to provide readers with the tools and advice required to succeed. I traveled extensively to meet the leaders in equity crowdfunding, and interviewed company founders who have already achieved success with this exciting new development in early-stage finance.
Apart from this book, I offer several ways to help founders achieve their growth and funding goals.
- Free Resources: There are a host of extra resources to download to get the most out of this book. If you havent already, I highly recommend heading over to www.startupfundingsecrets.io/equity to download them, free of charge. You will find a template for making a pitch deck, a checklist for forming your marketing plan, a set of criteria for comparing platforms with each other, in-depth recorded interviews, and much more.
- One-On-One Strategy Consulting: I can provide an assessment of the suitability of your project for equity crowdfunding, direct you to the exact platform that will suit your objectives, advise on your marketing strategy, and help hone your pitch to investors. Professional advisors (such as accountants or lawyers), can also receive my guidance regarding what equity crowdfunding can do for their clients. Lets find a time to chat. Send an email to and Ill be in touch.
- Equity Crowdfunding Masterclass: If you are serious about ensuring your campaign has the best possible chance of succeeding, the Equity Crowdfunding Masterclass is the next step. I will guide you through exactly how to launch a campaign using video, comprehensive marketing resources, and more tips from equity crowdfunding veterans. There are fundamental changes happening within equity finance.
The industry as we know it is currently fragmented, with various institutional investors, venture capital firms, business angel networks, and stock exchanges all targeting different niches. There are many barriers in place for investors and organizations which prevent or discourage the efficient allocation of capital.
In the next decade, it will be transformed into a more inclusive industry, where a much wider range of organizations will be able to raise equity funding and where a much wider range of investors will be able to participate at an earlier stage. Equity crowdfunding has a huge part to play in this.
The growth of equity crowdfunding has been nothing short of phenomenal. It is hard to believe that it was only in 2010 that the first equity crowdfunding platforms started, given that it has since grown to be responsible for approximately US$2 billion in funding in 2015, according to Cambridge University. Furthermore, the industry is almost doubling in size every year.
Startups and growing companies will use equity crowdfunding to raise money and, just as importantly, to connect with their stakeholders. They can then use their investors for improving their business, marketing, and for forming other relationships with the help and knowledge of their network.
The equity crowdfunding market is very diverse. We at CrowdfundingHub have seen the significant growth first-hand, throughout Europe especially. In the United Kingdom, the industry is flourishing with platforms raising hundreds of millions of pounds every year, including dozens of campaigns raising more than a million pounds. In the rest of Europe, several countries are seeing annual markets of 10 - 20 million and higher, with the expectations it will grow quickly to several hundred million euro in the next few years.
We also see many places where equity crowdfunding has not started at all, or is very immature. For regulators, investors, and entrepreneurs, it is important to read the examples and insights in this book to learn why it is so important to support the equity crowdfunding industry in their own country.
One reason equity crowdfunding has not yet developed in some places is a lack of regulation. Equity crowdfunding is not always allowed in all countries, or is very much restricted. In 2016 we saw more countries relax their stance and embrace the opportunities that equity crowdfunding allows including in the United States with Title III equity crowdfunding commencing.
