Preface

Crisis management has emerged as an area of attracting increasing interest in the literature and practice as well. In the past decades, the risk was shown to be an inescapable reality of modern business. Internal as well as external crises have increased in recent years, so companies need to be ready to tackle them. Until very recently, systematic research into crisis management has been scarce and rather fragmented. This refers to crisis management in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular. This book will address these shortcomings and provide a detailed analysis of crisis management in SMEs. The content covered in this book will ideally help in developing improved approaches to crisis management. This book consists of 14 chapters, which discuss crisis management from different perspectives and worldviews and thus provides researcher and practitioners with insights on how to better deal with this crucial competence.

By focusing on crisis management in SMEs, this book addresses a critical gap in the extant literature.

We, the editors, hope you will enjoy reading the book as much as we have enjoyed reading the individual chapters of this book.

We like to thank our UniversitiesTallinn University of Technology and Hochschule fr Technik und Wirtschaft Berlinthat made possible this project. In particular, we would like to thank the research assistant Johanna Salzmann for her technical support in this project.
