Introduction
As a business owner, I have found that many people bring with them positive and uplifting attributes. They like to synergize for the best possible outcomes in the workplace, supporting a peaceful and productive working environment, and cultivating good business relationships. However, there are a few who do not.
How to NOT KILL Your Small Business is a book for all business owners and entrepreneurs who, from time to time, find themselves struggling with interpersonal relationships inside their business.
While many motivational books focus on positive affirmations or the worth of others, this book focuses on you. It drills down into principles that will help you identify those who do not have you or the health of your business in mind and keep you focused on healthy boundaries and business practices.
We have all heard the quote, The employees are the business!
It is undoubtedly true, yet there is more to the business than just the employees. There is the structure, the mission, the product or service, and there is you the owner and creator, the one who stays up at night after everyone else has gone home: YOU, the one who keeps things running.
Relational managers often lose sight of the fact that the business and structure itself is the one thing we all have in common. It brings us together and keeps us together, and without it, the employees have no jobs.
This book will keep your business thriving and healthy. It will help you create and identify boundaries that will give your business the longevity, stability, and security you deserve.
Reading this book and contemplating the maxims will help you identify problem people and reveal circumstances that may leave you vulnerable to those who are waiting to take advantage of you.
This book will give you the edge you need to protect your business NOW, and help you stay in control of your company, so you can continue to enjoy what you have created for years to come!
Day 1
Do not be afraid to lose clients, customers, or staff. Trying to please everyone creates chaos.
Day 2
When hiring, require and call all qualified references. Hear the words that are not being said.
Day 3
Keep firm professional boundaries. A lack of enforced boundaries will cultivate a lack of disrespect from staff members.
Day 4
Have a daily presence in your establishment. If you do not, someone else will become the face and leader of your company.
Day 5
Grow your business but be careful, as too much overhead can KILL a business.
Day 6
When expanding, make sure your profit margins are large enough to handle the expansion and at the same time, do not increase your expenses too much.
Day 7
Care enough to not care too much. Focusing too much on the personal need of any one staff member, will shift the focus off the health of whole group.
Day 8
Realize that some of your staff will have false imaginations about your life and rationalize inside themselves that they have a right to what is yours.
Day 9
Stay front and center in your own company. Your people need a leader to help them stay focused on the vision and mission.
