Acknowledgments

We wish to extend our gratitude to Merlin P. Lawson, Dean of Graduate Studies, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, for long-term and continuing support of the Museum Studies Program. We deeply appreciate the support of Lawrence Sommer, Director of the Nebraska State Historical Society, throughout this project and for arranging release time for Lynne Ireland for the final preparation of the manuscript. The excellent editorial work of Deborah B. Eisloeffel significantly improved the manuscript for this book. Angie Fox, Technical Artist, University of Nebraska State Museum, prepared the organizational charts that appear in chapter 3. Whitney Bruhn checked facts and index entries.

Our thanks also go to the students who have taken our course in museum administration and management. They also assisted with literature searches, research, writing, discussions, and fact checking.
