Foreword

Planning the Digital Museum

Barry Lord and Gail Dexter Lord

Museums are about real thingsoriginal works of art, historic artifacts, specimens of natural history, and the tangible records of human achievement. Museums are about real people, those who visit and those who work inside and the many who pass by wondering what is contained within those impressive walls. At first glance the digital world of images and data seems to be a very different and unrelated place. Yet two basic human impulses bring them together: communication and storage.
