Coaches play a major role in helping people understand their values and the values of their surroundings and helping them make choices and adapt. Sometimes the choice may be to find a situation more in sync with your values. Or it may mean working hard on yourself or in concert with your partner, team, or organization. Whatever we need to do to attain it, a positive fit makes for a happier person, and a happier person will be more successful. This book compiles short vignettes from over a dozen global academics and celebrated executive coaches, sharing information about aligning values in different settings. Based on years of research and written for readers from all walks of life, you will learn that when you understand your core values, place them on a triaxial template, and align them with your definition of success, everything changes. This book is dedicated to the community of Coaching by Values (CBV) (CoachingxValores in Spanish) and the new emerging community of Leadership by Values (LBV). Since the first edition of CBV was published in 2011 in English, and in 2012 in Spanish, and under the leadership of David Alonso, the community of Coaching by Values has evolved enormously throughout the world, but more specifically in Spain and in the South and Central American continent. The people involved in the community are professionals who have dedicated energy and passion to a divine mission of changing the world and making it a better place to live. I have a deep respect and admiration for these people and gratitude for believing in me. This book has become the Bible (the DNA) for the community, of CBV and LBV, although more products and methodologies are emerging every year and have added significant creative value to my initial thoughts via a process of co-evolution. This book uses the collective experience accumulated both by me and others who have practiced the methodology and tools throughout the globe in the past several years. But I am particularly in debt to my colleague Dr. Salvador Garcia, who has co-developed with me the concept of the triaxial model of values, and who led the writing of the first book on values (in Spanish) in 1997. Thus, I feel in debt to them for the process of co-evolution and wish to dedicate this book to the community leaders, the certified coaches, and the thousands of people like you, who will certainly join us after reading this book.
