You never really understand how important your friends and family are until you take on a large project. My wife, Coleen, was my sounding board and always had insightful feedback. I cant tell you how much I appreciated her support and encouragement. My children, Kaytlyn, JT, and Julianna are always an inspiration and fill my life with joy.

First and foremost, I want to thank my wife, Wendi, for planting the seed to write this book. She is an amazing woman and I am fortunate to have her by my side. Thanks for believing in me. To my children, Chase, Kendall, and Sloane, and my stepchildren, Daniel and Cory, just know that anything is possible and writing this book is proof of it. If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
INTRODUCTION
The Beauty Industry TodayAs We See It
The haircare industry is a multibillion dollar business. The economic climate has never had a big impact on products and services. Salons have survived during all financial and economic climates and circumstances.
The beauty industry has grown faster than most businesses, due to peoples perception of themselves and the importance they place on looking and feeling their best. The world is ever-changing, and the beauty industry has evolved from Baby Boomer styles to Generation X. We, as a society, love new trends and the ability to create them.
We have always been a vain society. Vanity has been an important factor for the beauty industry. The look-good, feel-good way of living is more apparent in the world of today than ever before. As we age, the importance of keeping a young, healthy look has become an everyday way of lifeand an obsession to some. Anti-aging products are an industry unto themselves. The beauty industry will continue to be at the forefront, keeping the world looking young and feeling beautiful.
Even in todays difficult economic conditions, our industry will continue to grow and prosper. People need the beauty industry. Women entering the workplace and climbing the corporate ladder have been the most crucial driving force behind the explosion of sales in the beauty industry for the past decade. Women of all ages and economic backgrounds are relying on the services of the beauty industry to create and maintain their imagewhatever that image may be.
Mens vanity and egos, now unbridled, are bringing them to salons on a more frequent basis. Men-only salons are now in most cities. It is now more common for men to get color treatments in salons. These changes, as well as other related salon and spa services for men, will continue to grow. The job market for the middle-aged man is highly competitive; they need to rely on monthly salon visits to keep looking young, as well as looking good.
