Keto-Adapted: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Keto-Adapted" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

A ketogenic diet isnt something new that has been recently formulated; people have been on a ketogenic diet for virtually three million years in which our brains were nurtured and evolved. Now the human brain is not only shrinking, but brain atrophy is the norm as we age and get plagued with diseases such as dementia, Alzheimers disease and Parkinsons disease. People mistakenly think that they need to eat less and exercise more to create a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. This is not how diet and exercise helps with weight loss. A well-formulated keto-adapted diet along with proper exercise builds muscle and muscle builds mitochondria. It is in the mitochondria where fat is oxidized so you can keep your cells and liver insulin sensitized. Weight loss and health is about healthy mitochondria and about controlling hormones and specifically insulin. This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. By eating this way, you will begin to heal your cells and will keep evolving your body into the happy and healthy person you want to be. This book is filled with the most impeccable nutrition information to fuel your cells. Marias passion goes beyond explaining the why, she is a master in the kitchen and loves food. Her keto-adapted recipes at the end of the book tie all the nutrition together so you can become keto-adapted faster than ever.

Dedication

I once heard someone say, If you want to hear God laugh, tell him what you have planned! That statement couldnt have been more true for the past few years of my life. I was totally a planner, and the more I tried to control how things happened, the more frustrated I got. My husband lost his job, my job as a rock-climbing guide didnt pay the bills and we struggled to start our family. All of these trials helped push me in the right direction to my nutrition business. Throughout this journey I have been able to befriend some amazing people that I need to thank.

Jamie Schultz: I remember when you first approached me, Maria, I love your book, but you need a new cover! Your photography is incredible! Thank you for the covers of all of my books! I also want to thank you for helping me start my blog; it helped me get up in the morning when I was going through the most difficult time in my life!

Kristen Demulling: To my beloved BodyPump instructor. I remember when you first started teaching class and you looked so young I thought you were freshly out of high school. When you started talking about your daughter in 4th grade my jaw hit the floor! I should have guessed you were a keto-adapted woman! You look wonderful! Thank you for helping with the content of the book.

Nicole Howard: Even though we live so far apart, I still feel so connected with you. I really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to proof read my chapters and ideas.

Emily Derr: You copy editing is truely amazing. Thank you for all your hard work.

Dr. William Davis: Thank you for taking the time to write my forward. Your work is amazing and you are a true role model for me. You have done more to help my family that I could have ever asked for. Thank you!

Dr. David Perlmutter: Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to write about my book. Your work is really leading science to new places for brain health.

Craig: To my love and best friend. Without your technical skills, patience, editing, encouragement and APPETITE, none of this would have happened. Thank you for never complaining when the kitchen is a disaster after a recipe photo shoot, or the dishwasher is stacked with dishes in a way they will never get clean, when the laundry isnt done or the kids need a bath because I am swamped with work. I am so lucky to have a husband like you who jumps into helping without any complaints. SHMILY.

M aria Emmerich has done it again.

In her quest to help readers understand how to regain ideal health, wellness, and weight, Maria has developed a unique talent to deliver the nuts and bolts of a healthy nutrition program. In her newest effort, Keto Adapted, she clears up much of the confusion over the ultra low-carb lifestyle and why it is superior for overall health and weight.

For years, we were terrified of ketosis, the metabolic state generated when virtually no carbohydrates are available for energy. Metabolic ketosis was often confused with ketoacidosis, a dangerous condition that type 1 diabetics typically have before their condition is diagnosed because insulin is unavailable to allow glucose to enter the cells of the body. While both conditions do indeed involve ketone production, it came to be recognized that diabetic ketoacidosis involved orders of magnitude greater levels of ketones, far above the naturally adaptive levels of metabolic ketosis.

There have been observations made over the years that hinted at the advantages of metabolic ketosis. Weve known, for instance, that children with intractable seizures unresponsive to medicine, or even surgery, respond to a ketotic diet, often with dramatic relief. Weve also heard anecdotes of cancers disappearing with extended metabolic ketosis. After all, the method of PET scanning to detect cancer employs a radioactive form of glucose, reflecting the fact that cancers take up more glucose than normal tissues.

What has taken many of us by surprise more recently is that ketosis, i.e., this adaptive state that allows humans to survivethriveon a diet minus carbohydrates yet still extract energy from food, provides unexpected advantages in health outside of these unique situations. Not only does ketosis powerfully facilitate weight loss from visceral fat stores, it is also associated with heightened states of mental clarity, reversal of insulin and leptin resistance, and may indeed create a situation that essentially starves cancer cells of their preferred nutrient, glucose.

Marias Keto Adapted is an approachable, user-friendly discussion detailing how to put the concepts of metabolic ketosis into practice in the context of an overall program to regain and maintain ideal health.

Of course, nothing Maria produces wouldnt be complete without her signature beautiful and delicious grain-free, strict low-carb recipes! Maria is a genuine master of this art. The recipes she provides in Keto Adapted are those that help facilitate a lifestyle crafted to maintain this metabolic advantage.

Chapter 1

Introduction

Throughout this book, I start my chapters with before-and-after photos and testimonial from a former client. These are to inspire you and to give you the motivation to succeed. Some of my clients dont show as much on the outside (weight loss), but their insides (moods, pain, gastrointestinal problems, etc.) are drastically improved. This is the miracle of eating a well-formulated keto-adapted diet: you heal on the inside and the outside, and feel better than ever. Make sure to take your before photo before you begin!

Below are my before-and-after photos. Before, I had IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), acid reflux, mood swings, low energy and much more. Now, I have never felt better or had more energy!

W hen my dog, Teva, started losing her hair in patches, the first thing my veterinarian asked me was, What are you feeding her? Yes! What a good question! But you know what? I have never been asked that question at the doctor. Not once. Not even when I was a teenager suffering from IBS and acid reflux. I was just given a prescription. Nothing frustrates me more than getting a Band-Aid for the symptoms and not addressing the underlying cause of my issues. The prescription doesnt fix what is causing the problem, it only covers up the symptoms. If you also want to start treating the cause of your health problems (not just the symptoms), this book is for you! I have written this book to help you understand where you may be going wrong with your grain- and sugar-free lifestyle. I have over ten years of experience addressing the causes of clients problems, and this book explains what works!
