Foreword
T here are many dimensions to a full and successful life, but my half-century in the area of human development and equality has vividly taught me the essential and fundamental need that each of us has to create abundant personal health on whatever road of life we choose.
One can acquire the tools necessary to enjoy a healthful and harmonious existence by creating a healthy body through nutrition and exercise, a healthy mind through positive thought and peace, and a healthy spirit through commitment and faith. These all contribute to a symbiotic humanity that allows all of us the freedom to reach our greatest potential.
There are endless ways we can improve our future, but none is more vital than commitment to a healthful lifestyle. In recent years I have become acquainted with Brian R. Clement of Hippocrates Health Institute and their work that spans several decades. Brians candid message of taking responsibility for ones life gives each of us who heed the call infinite possibilities through the development of complete health. On this road of challenge and change, harmony and peace prevail in the very places that confusion and anger reigned. One acquires a sense of deeper devotion to God and nature.
There are hundreds of thousands of people worldwide that now embrace the Hippocrates lifestyle. Living Foods for Optimum Health is a landmark guide to the essentials of healthy living. There is no doubt in my mind that Brians book is being presented at the right place and the right time for the whole of humanity When reading this practical and easy to understand message, open your heart and mind. You will find yourself entering the new millennium with a healthy body, mind, and spirit.
Introduction
E very three weeks the Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida, welcomes a new series of guests. Many arrive with a variety of health concernsfrom tumors to diabetes, from arthritis to digestive difficulties. Others who visit the institute are healthy and determined to maintain that precious gift. In either case, the Hippocrates Health Program helps them cleanse and detoxify their systems and offers them personal control over their health and well-being.
Twenty-five years ago, the institute drew me like a beacon of light guiding me away from my disconnected and unhealthy lifestyle. The Hippocrates Health Institute had an international reputation in pioneering the take-personal-responsibility approach to health and life and I wanted to be a part of this growing field. Since then, I have risen through the ranks to my present position as director and have watched tens of thousands of people from around the world learn how to live better, more productive, and healthier lives by using the information we provide at our Lifestyle Change Center, as well as through the many books, videos, and cassette tapes we distribute worldwide.
My work gets more exciting by the day, and now Im overjoyed to gather the basics of all this information into this book. The opening chapters support the validity of the Hippocrates Health Program by closely examining the evolution of toxic malnutrition in the twentieth century. Youll follow the emergence of our malnourished society through the fast-paced developments in agricultural technologies, in the proliferation of chemical and pharmaceutical products in the food chain, in consumer expectations, and in government involvement in the food industry. Youll examine the kinds of food that have sat on our kitchen tables throughout the past century and the technological discoveries and social attitudes that made them popular. Youll explore technological breakthroughs such as wheat processing that gave us nonspoiling white bread, food additives that increased the shelf-life of baked goods, and pesticides that protected thousands of acres of crops. Youll also learn how these technologies positive intents resulted in a negative effect on our health.
In following chapters, youll take an analytical look at the nutritional myths weve all been raised on. Youll examine those balanced meals that combine chemically combustible elements and cause an epidemic of gastrointestinal ailments. Youll uncover the fallacies of popular weight-loss diets and the dangers of good ol home cooking.
The Hippocrates Health Program uses the mistakes of the twentieth century to point us in a new directiona direction that uses what we know about the indisputable healing and restorative powers of living foods to bring physical and mental health to the people of the twenty-first century. Ive written this book so that you can have a handy, practical, step-by-step guide to living-foods vegetarianism. This is a way of life that restores harmony to the body through the use of fresh, raw, and living foods that nourish, cleanse, and alkalinize the body by the combined action of their nutritional components: vitamins, minerals, amino acids, liquids, complex carbohydrates, fiber, and especially oxygen and enzymes. Youll learn how to shop for living foods and how to prepare them. Youll learn how to germinate and sprout your own beans and grains. Youll learn how to cook without the heat that destroys oxygen and enzymes. Youll also learn how to get the most out of your new diet by making lifestyle changes that include a positive attitude, exercise, colon cleansing, relaxation, fasting, dry skin brushing, aromatherapy, sauna, steam baths, whirlpool, massage, and electrical frequency therapy.
