1 Your New Job Depends on the Questions You Ask
Why do most employment interviewers invite the interviewee to ask questions? I have been an employment professional for fifteen years, so I do have some solidly rooted ideas about this issue. Still, I surveyed over 1,000 employers from across the country and asked them this very question. Here is what the respondents told me:
Evaluating Candidate's Fitness: Over half the respondents answered that the single most important reason is this: The candidate's questions are a means of evaluating his/her fitness for the job.

Providing Information: The next largest group of responding employers said this: They wish to provide information the interviewee wants.
Other reasons: A few employers identified other reasons such as simple courtesy.
Many fine books have been written to help you answer the questions you will be asked at a job interview.
This book will help you prepare for a critical part of your interview which is often neglected: The questions you need to ask your interviewer. Your success in obtaining a job offer depends significantly on the quality of your questions and how you ask them.
How Much Does It Matter?
Just how important are your questions in the employer's evaluation of you as a job candidate? Over half of the responding employers we surveyed said that your questions are as important as your answers to their questions. Most of the remaining employers said that your answers are less important, but still significant. A few said your answers are actually more important.
Employees evaluate your fitness for the job in significant part based on your questions. What do your questions say about you?
What Employers Learn from Your Questions
Your questions tell a lot about you. Here are some major examples:
How seriously you are thinking about the pragmatics of the job and how well you understand what the job is about.
What is important to you. What your expectations are.
Your ability to connect general situations to that firm's particular reality.
